Here are the differences

1) Ballasts are different
2) DRL (9905 bulbs) in type S compared to fog lights in the 04-06 models (9006 bulbs)
3) Turn signal bulbs are different, type S uses 1157 and the 04-06 uses 7443 bulbs.

I think another difference is that the TypeS headlight are HID for low and high beams.

i think you could just take off the ballast and bulb from your own headlights and mount it on the new one

If you install TL-S headlights onto a 04-06 model TL then make sure you NEVER turn on your foglight (DRL opening in the Type S headlights) for more than a few minutes. DRL run at half the power compared to the 12 V 55 watt 9006 bulbs for the 04-06 TLs. Leaving them on for a few minutes would melt the DRL shrouds right off .

Some pictures as proof

left one isnt burnt but the right one is as you can see

Jnc thanks for info because I'm my plan was to install accord fogs and use upper fogs with luminics 9006 hb4 yellow bulbs.. So know I'm confused.. Jnc can you do original 04 headlight to look like Tl -s headlight with angel eyes ( I believe that's what there call or halo) ? And if yes how much and what's turn around time...

Stop saying tl-s, only have them. 07/08 Base TL's have the same lights, then then they used those new lights on the TL-S

That is partially true. The base models aren't black inside , but you can make them like it.

had no idea the drl shrouds would melt I wanted to mess around with a 9005 hid kit

if anyone installs type s tails then just use the drl with 9005 hyper yellows, it'll still look pretty sick for fogs, and the lower accord fogs would almost demand 3000k

Yes, that can be done. Following is what you would need

1) Type S defusers $25~$40 (you can either leave them the way the are or paint the side amber corners black)
2) Single CCFL kit $117 (install is free if you get headlights done by me)
3) Black out the internal bezel with hi gloss paint to match that of Type S. My labor for that is

My labor for the whole set up above is $150.

Turn around time is a day and since you are in NYC you should get your headlights back in 4~5 days from the day you ship them using USPS priority mail, shipping charges from NYC to MA = $13~$18

SO MY THEORY WAS CORRECT

I SWORE that the bezels were melting cause of my 05 fogs.. I thought it was the angel eyes this whole time but aren't they cold cathodes? lol i didn't think they get hot or even warm at that... thanks for validating my hypothesis

but what's happening now is that the bezel around the HEADLIGHT is slowly deforming.. weird.

^^ I have had at least 3 sets of type S headlights or base model headlights come through with the same problem. In 07-08 models the bulbs run as DRLs, running at half their total output. Even though the 04-06 fog light bulbs (9006) will fit the headlights but they will still run at their full potency hence creating the intense heat and melting the shroud. As I suggested earlier, dont use your foglights, if you plan to use them then just switch the bulbs to LED ones, they dont create as much heat as the halogen ones.

Yeah I haven't turned those fogs on in months, lol.

but why is the headlight bezel becoming distorted?

If you take off the front bezel and look at the part that is behind the bezel i.e. the part that holds the projector in place and also has the reflector for DRL incorporated into it then you will see it doesnt focus light through the little hole in the DRL opening. The reflector is huge and it shines light onto the whole bezel, in stock iteration the heat isnt significant enough to do the damage but once you crank up the 9006 bulbs to their fullest then the heat slowly melts the shroud and it deforms eventually.

In the case of above shroud, the foglights were left on for more than 15 minutes, the ballast blew and the owner had to drive home with just fogs on by the time he got home not only did he have a blown ballast but melted shrouds as well.

Is it safe to use the 07-08 type-s headlight DRL opening on my 05 TL as DRL without melting the bezel?
thanks.

Yes as long as you don't supply it with halogens and 55W. Just use LED's for a cool effect. What I want to know is what about running HID's in that spot, with or without a projector retrofit... will it still distort that spot?
