Heading Down the Road

Well guys, this is goodbye. I just put down a deposit last night on an '08 Infiniti G37.

It's been a fun ride on the Acura train, but it's time to move up and move on.

I want to thank everyone for all the great advice over the past two years. Everyting from XM renewals to trailer hitches. I've save a ton of money, and "met" a lot of great people. To those I managed to p.o., please accept my sincere apology.

More so, I want to thank the moderators for the time they spend maintaining an awesome site. Take some satisfaction in the fact that what you provide is a great service to all of us. I've humbly had my hand spanked a few times (rightfully so), and learned that humility is a good thing, even at the ripe old age of 49!

Good luck to everyone. I'll go into lurk mode and anxiously await the arrival of the all-new '09 TL.

gurney

P.S. - DMZ - it's up to you now to keep these young punks in line!

I always liked reading your posts...like good fatherly advice. Take care and good luck with the G37. I know what the G offers/is compared to the TL, but I'm curious as to your reasons for making the switch...

Thanks for the nice comment chill.

Reason for the switch? I'm at two years and 43K miles, so, I'm really at the "point of no return", either sell the car now before it starts to take some real value hits, or keep it until it dies.

That, and I'm a "coupe guy". I wish they hadn't discontinued the CL. I loved my '01 Type-S. Still my favorite car of all time.

I actually looked at th G35 Coupes when shopping for the TL but was turned-off by the interior. The G37 addresses that and more.

I'll still be in the family; the wife has an '07 MDX.

Goodluck with the 330hp RWD beast. I am sure you will love it. Did you get a manual?

It was compared to the 335i and won the comparison.

Wow, that's a good bit of driving! I'm at just over three years and just under 26k...and I drive it everyday.

My first car was a coupe...it was fun. My project car (which I'll get in a few years) will be a coupe. The TL will be my daily driver (kind of like it is now).

Yeah, I was never too fond of it, either. The G37's interior is really nice; however, I don't like what they did with the exterior. I'm sure it could be dressed up with a few mods and I could like it (like the GTO). I know you've already ordered it, but Edmunds had a good comparison of the G37 and the 335 (might be the one JD is talking about).

dude do you have anything positive to say to the OP? you're two responses have been a bit rough edged...you know, TENG's responses were always rough edged and not nice to other posters or the OP.

to gurney/OP: good luck buddy! post some pics - would love to see interior pics etc and your thoughts!

Hey, check out the Cartalk and Ramblings sections of AZ-- I think there are more Infiniti and BMW owners there than Acura owners, and you may find some helpful info on the G37 in the Cartalk section.

Ramblings has sections on all sorts of non-car topics too (but I only go there for the threads with pictures of attractive semi-nude women... ).

See you later!

$70k, with Nissan corporate debating whether to void the warranty if you sell it less than a year after buying it (trying to avoid a price run-up and people flipping to make a profit).

Gurney, we'll miss ya.

Stillhere, you can buy (2) G37s for the price of a GT-R, ain't no "holding out" for a high demand $70K plus car. If you cna afford that for a ride, you got a lot of other options at your disposal.

That's retarded... My corporate response to that is increase production to meet the demand. I think Nissan may be patting themselves on the back a bit early. Sure, it's a relatively affordable "fantasy car", but it's still $70K before options and hookups... There ain't that many folks that can do that.

They'll offer trim levels like they do for the 350z...

and honestly if the next tl is SHAWD with a mean update on the hp, do you really believe the price is going to remain bellow 50k, in 09 we'll all be shopping for a tsx with a j35 motor...

Dang ... shame on me .... for not knowing there are hotties there ... Ramblings here I come .... and a big thx to Will ...

As for the G37, there was a thread about some G37 on ebay ? not enough interior pics if I remember correctly .... it'd be great to see more pics Gurney so that we can compare shops .. but you know we are all biased right? LOL

Current RL has all that + some extra and is under $50K, yes, I think a pimped 09 TL with SHAWD will be under 50K, it has to be... if not, you're exactly correct, they'll fall the way of the RL, and we'll be shopping TSX's. The TL did well because it looks great and it WAS the best "bang for the buck" out there. Unfortunately, that is erroding away... For example, a $5K+ increase for some minor cosmetic changes, cheap electronic upgrades, a Type S badge, and .3 more L of displacement...

Wonder why Gurney went the way of G37 instead?

Were not talking $50K though, you said hold out for a GT-R, we're talking $70K entry price + options... You got $75-80K to spend on a stupid, impractical toy? if so, good for you, you're the .5% of this forum that can. Most of us probably COULD but would compromise quality of life for a status symbol.

$70K pushes the M6, Viper, and other "supercar" price points, and nevermind the fact that a twin turbo 500 HP car makes a great daily driver...

Guys:

No offense taken. Everyone has an opinion, and can make a personal choice. Mine is that I want a G37.

It's a 5AT

1. my commute is a b**ch; and
2. it's all that was available.

There is just no demand for 6MT's in the great Banana Rebublic of New Orleans. Not at Acura, not at Infiniti. I could order a G37 with a manual, but it wouldn't come in until January, and by then my TL would have another 8K miles on it! That would mean a big hit on the trade in.

gurney,

All the best with the G37. FYI - I just looked over an article in Motor Trend at the dentist where MT said the G37 blew the doors off a 335.

I still need 4 doors so I 'm looking at a G35. And the Type S too, so no flamin!

Of course I can just take my chances with my 105,xxx miles 2000 TL...

People above made mention of a comparision between the 335i and the G37s, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK8_DkEmLyo

To Gurney,

Good luck with your G37, it is a nice car. I don't blame you for your decision one bit, nor do I feel it is a bad one and I hope enjoy the car. Take care!

this was really my point for bringing up the GT-R... I would understand a shift from FWD to AWD, but a shift from FWD to RWD, you will really have to get used to it, and I hope you don't have winter months where you live... good luck with the G

I never got a chance to 'know you' but good luck with the G37. A co-worker has the G35 coupe in this electric blue color - I love the styling.

I had a CL for two years before getting my new TL 2 weeks ago. I loved the CL also, actually I still have it, but it's in for trans repairs. I was planning to sell it to put more money towards the loan on the TL...but now I'm considering just keeping it too, it might be worth it for the $1k - 2k I'll make after factoring in the trans repair costs.
