Having trouble cleaning windshield
Having trouble cleaning windshield
I'll give this one a shot. It's a little difficult to explain but here goes.
When it rains and I have the wipers on, as they are cleaning back and forth
I get this line which is the exact length of the passenger wiper blade. This line
is where the passenger wiper stops when it reachers the drivers side. Then it goes away, only to come back again as the wiper does it usual motion.
But does it?
When I clean the windshield from the outside with either Windex or Invisible Glass, when
I run the cloth over that area with the solvent i can see the line. When I run the hose on the windshield I see it. I tried rubbing the crap out of it but it does not go away.
Any solutions?
thanks in advance

That is the key. Wash the blades and wipe clean, you will be amazed how dirty the washcloth will get. Also, try cleaning the grooves where side windows roll in at top of the windows.Try some cleaning and polishing products for glass. I use Zaino's.

Griots Garage has a glass polish that will fix your problem. I'ts best applied with an Orbital buffer, but you can do it by hand if you've got the time. This stuff actually polishes glass and will remove small scratches and acid rain etching.
Never wax the windshield!.
Many cars come with protectants on them from the factory, esp those shipped from abroad (Cosmoline is common on European cars - on the TL, most stuff gets on the windshield during PDI).
Here is what i suggest - you have residue on the wipers and/or glass.
1) Clean wiper blades with rubbing alcohol. Treat with 303 Protectant. Remove excess.
2) Clean glass thoroughly, first with a strong concentration of dish detergent (like Dawn). Use full strength, let it sit, rinse thoroughly.
3) If water still beads, use a body polish like Meguari's #7 or #9, or Pinnacle Paintwork Cleaning polish. Use no silicone poloishes or waxes!!! No Rain-X.
4) Finally, if all else fails, this always works: Get some Bon Ami - on a small damp sponge, apply the Bon Ami and work into the glass, top to bottom, then rinse throughly. Then use Dawn, and rinse all the residue away. BA will not scratch glass, but is abrasive enough to remove stubborn deposits.
It took a few weeks for me to get whatever the dealer idiots had put on the glass - silicone is very hard to remove from glass, since glass is a bit porous. I polish/wax every window but the windshield. If the wipers still are grabby or arthritic, you may have to also replace the blade inserts, as they can be contaminated beyond help.
