6 forms of audio
The cassette deck works fine. I have lots of old tapes and also books on tape which are good for long trips. In fact, it is the best deck I have had in a car. It also offers a portal for Mp3 or other portable sources but I would have preferred RCA jacks for line input.
I don't know about your TL, but mine came with a 6 disk changer. Didn't yours? We have a choice of 6 audio sources- more than any other car- as standard equipment:
AM
FM
XM
CD
DVD
tape

Years ago, I had a Nakamichi cassette recorder and I recorded hundreds of analog vinyl LP's using a Lynn Sondek turntable with a very nice moving coil cartridge (Kisiki, i think). The sound quality was very good considering the technology of the cassette's, and even today, those recordings rival the sound quality of most CD's. There is nothing quite like good vinyl and quality analogue sound when it comes to smoothness and the "you are there" factor. Before you dismiss the cassette format, make sure you are listening to tapes recorded on a good recorder, with quality source material, and don't compare with pre-recorded cassette's which are absolutely crap. Listen before you decide. I still listen to my tapes today, and I still enjoy them as much as I did when I recorded them 2 decades ago. Unbelievable that they still sound good at all.

I'm getting one of those hard-wired line input adapters and mounting my Teac reel to reel on the passenger seat!
Wish me luck...I pick up my TL at 12PM today!!

What is this....cassette player? Haven't used one in over ten years. Hell, I don't even use the CD player anymore since I've got my iPod. Viva la musica digital!

I've never used it yet, thought about the "any device"-to-cassette adapter which I have, just haven't done it yet.
I too would have liked to have seen a 1/8" jack on the front for direct input, that woulda rocked.

I've never had good luck with tapes in my car. Way before we had CD players in autos and
I listened to tapes, it always seemed like the sun would 'melt' my tapes and then I'd get distortion.

In US, don't know why MD is not popular. In Asia, MD is common and totally took over the position of the cassette tape. That cassette in TL should be a MD player, or option to put a harddrive for MP3s.

I heard a rumor on here a while ago that the Tape deck was being "done away with" on the 05. But it was just a rumor. Be interesting to see what replaces it.

I enjoy getting books on tape from the library. The stories are great and range from the classics to the latest Tom Clancy novel. The best part is that it's free. Anything read by Frank Muller will be awesome.

A 5 disc player??? It already has a 6 disc changer....what would be the point of yet another one????
Equalizer?.....snicker. Bet you want one with lots of pretty blinking lights on it too
While I haven't used the cassette yet and probably never will, there are still some uses for it. But I would love to have seen an option to swap it out for something more modern, like an MP3 player or auxilliary input for plugging in your own device (like an iPod).

Hey that would be a great idea to have a MP3player instead!!! Acura should take a look at this thread b/c seems know likes the cassette player and thinks it is a waste of a head unit while something else should replace it. We are all living in new millinium and not the 80's!!!

Hey Xpditor i was wondering how you liked your Black with Camel, and what made you go with the Camel interior instead of the Parchment. If you would let me know. I'm trying to decide when i get my TL which combo. i wanna go with. Thanks

I read somewhere that Acura decided to not have mp3 compatability for their CD player because they felt mp3s "inferior sound quality" wouldn't do the audio system justice. Seems like total crap. Since when are cassettes knows for their superior sound quality?? (They could have at least included an AUX jack...)

I also shopped BMW and M-B. I came close to getting a E320, black with Parchment. Then, I discovered the TL. From that point on, I wasn't going to pay $50,000 for a car when I could get one with more features, better performance, and better styling for $35,000.
When I chose to get black, I new it would require a little more maintenance. No problem. I have always liked to keep my cars clean. Plus, in Florida, mother nature helps with that. The cars don't get very dirty and we don't have winter per se. In the rainy season, it rains for 15 minutes every afternoon.
If I wanted the look of wood, I would have to get either Parchment or Camel. I would have preferred tan but it's not offered. I also cross-shopped Infiniti G35. They have this "Willow" interior which is like a very pale greenish white. Frankly, it's kind of yucky. But, I looked at one that had just come back from the car show. The door sill on the driver's side was covered with black scuff marks from people getting in and out. It made me realize that a white/parchment/willow interior was high maintenance also. So, I decided to go with the darker Camel. It is sort of a butterscotch color- not really tan- but I like it. So far (2 months), it has not been a maintenance problem. I have a dog, so the bottom of the backseat has a tan colored terrycloth towel over it. I don't want him digging his claws in my supple Corinthian leather.

I don't know about your TL, but mine already has two (2) DVD players: one in the trunk and one in the dash.
Granted, it is not set up to display DVD videos on the Nav screen but that is an easy conversion. It's not able to now because it is illegal in most states to one in the view of the driver for obvious reasons. Acura doesn't want the liability for that. I don't blame them.

i think if im not mistaken XP is talking about the DVD audio player in dash in the front, and the DVD-rom reader in the trunk for the Navi... I could be wrong though
Well I used it once the other day for my ipod, and it actualy sounded a crap load better then i thought it would... as long as there isnt dead silence, i dont hear any hissing, but will definatly upgrade to a more integrated setup (wired FM modulator with on/off switch in the top mini compartment, and the audio ports in the lower center consol bin) I wonder if Apple offers an RF solution for a remote... hmm off to google!
