Have they improved the sound insulation?

Hello,

I have not test driven/compared the Accord or the TL in a while. In 2001
when I bought my TL they both had bad sound insulation. Can you please let
me know if they have improved the sound insulation on them much since then?
Is there much of a difference in the sound insulation between the current TL
and the current Accord?

You don't hear the engine of my car so much as the sound from the road. In
California many of the roads have grooves for water/traction so tires make a
good amount of noise on the road. I've noticed when I am in a friend's
Toyota it is not as noticeable. And I've gone through a few types of tires
so it isn't the traction/grooves of my tires.

You need to test drive the cars.

There is also a product called quiet coat you can use on cars to reduce road
noise, it goes on like a paint, but acts better than undercoating.

I do hear some road noise on my TL, but its less than the passat had, which was
quite good, better than the Jaguar X and S types.

I typicly undercoat my cars wheel wells and other spots with the rubberized
stuff to cut some tire/road noise, and will do the TL when I get around to it.

They did a LOT in the TL to cut noise, but you still get some road noise on bad
rough roads.

dynomat your entire car if it bothers you that much. That will deaden alot of noise. I had it in my RSX everywhere. It will quiet it down significantly. I dont think the TL has that much roadnoise personally but I am used to extremely load cars. It will also help out with the rattles that everyone complains about.

Acura has added lots of sound deadening insulation in the TL. Under ther carpet is a very thick mat of padding. If you open the front doors and look looking inside the opening behind the fenders you will see black styrofoam insulation. I have a 2003 Accord and I can tell you the TL is much quieter, the Accord does not have same insulation as the TL!

coming from Mustang COnvertible, 3G TL sounded so quite I couldn't hear anything. Test drive ES330 and see how much difference is there.

Thanks for the replies.

In case I do find my next car too loud, I would like to know more about after market mods to quiet it down.

I don't compare the two directly but I heavily modded my PC to quiet it down and I'm stoked I spent the time and money. I didn't go crazy with liquid pumps or anything but I figure I'll take a halfway approach with the car as well. If there are simple things like rubber paint that won't effect the car negatively or other such things I would like to see my options.

I use silentpcreview for ideas on my PC - is there a thread/site/forum for this on cars?

Thanks again
