Has anyone else noticed this???

So i was detailing my car yesterday, this being like the 3rd time in 2 weeks due to unexpected rain ... and I was trying to figure out what causes resistance (sometimes a rubbing sound) when open/closing the doors. This first struck me when I noticed some of my female -umm.. 'friends' struggle a little to open and close the door (especially the rears). So I finally decided to look into it, I looked around and realized that it was this part (ref #1). Do any of you know what kind of paste/lubricant is meant for this part of the door? Is it safe to grind that part down a little (ref #2)? It seems kinda of dry to me, it needs some lube --and nobody say KY-Jelly lol

Here's what i'm talking about:

Clayed, washed, and waxed :

That would be the check strap, i wouldnt grind anything down, just lube it up with some grease. White lithium grease will work, i put this on mine and the noise went away!

^Forgot to mention that I tried WD40, but that part (ref#2) just wipes it off after a few open and closes. I also wanna know if it's ok to grind that down a little; because this is what causes the door to give that jerking back or forth feel (which feels kinda unsafe in tight situations). It no longer makes any noises, but the resistance is still there. I used to work at Mercedez dealer, and some of their doors are much heavier and open/close smoother...

Wd40 is pretty thin, try using more of a gel type lubricant!

^Yea i'll try that lithium stuff and see what happens... but do they come clear or black? Having white greasy streaks in such a visible spot will look like ass ...

Definitly don't grind it down, the whole point of that piece is to hold the door open for you. I have the opposite problem on mine. Mine doesn't hold good enough, thus resulting in a smashed leg if I am not paying attention.

By the way the detail job looks great.

^hehe thanks! I think i'll try the urea stuff since its made by Honda and hopefully doesn't stand out as much VS the white lithium.... do you grease all over, or just top and bottom?

I usually grease the bottom and top of the check strap, once you open and close the door a few times it will take in the grease.

Lithium made a very noticeable difference, but my driver side rear door keeps wiping grease smoothe off, I might consider grinding a little on that one. My pass. rear door opens waaaay smother than before!!!
