Slighty an "I'm an Idiot" story......picked up my new TL back in January 2004 down in Cincy and was driving it back at night. I was just minding my business and checking out some things while driving, mainly the DVD-A system and thought to myself, "Dam*, the moon sure is bright tonight". Driving some more and then decided to look for the moon and couldn't see it. About 20 minutes later I finally realize the bluish moon glow on my 6MT shifter and my hand and the rest of my center console area is coming from those two LED's mounted above.

Felt like a million bucks, I tell ya. :-)

Originally found in the BMW. I may be wrong on this but our BMW's have had it for a few years. Theirs glows an orangy red.

the lights helps you see the interior space around you while driving at night, without having to turn the map lights on, makes for safer driving. even though it's not a huge feature, i love the lights, people always seems to comment on them when they are in the car.

I first saw this in the BMW 740 and wished for a way to have it in my car. I was pleasantly surprised to find something similar in my TL. It's enough glow to let me see the buttons on my phone without turning on a light, but I wish it was slightly brighter. In the BMW, it's bright enough to read with, but not enough to be distracting. Both manufacturers did a great job providing a glow without making the source of the glow noticeable.

I added small recessed red lights to the underside of my Audi 100LS's dash which shown down on the radio and center console stack way back in college. I copied this feature from the 1st gen BMW 733i which was the first car I saw it featured on.
