I had to whip out my Service manual... The pictures on page 3 kinda helped...

Not that hard, just those pins under the rear bumper kinda sucked... (be sure not to take the two (4 total) out that hold the exhaust plastic. Couple (6 total) screws and the 2 bolts behind the covers. Thats to get to the lights...

Look at the pictures.

Alright, just a few things:

1. I did receive my replacement tail from Tim as promised and it has been installed with the bad one in a box to be sent back to him pre-paid. Thanks for the quick response Tim!

2. Erick3's concern about the condensation in the tails: It rained 2 days ago and I did notice condensation all along the rim of both tails, but it technically was not IN the tail lights. I went inside to watch a movie, and when I came out it was all gone. Old posts show this was an issue, but honestly, the tails are partially clear so I think even the stockies may have done it but it just wasn't too noticeable. I am not too worried about this and think it is a non-issue.

I don't know about the DEPO quality but if you think about it, why risk it for a measly <$40.00 difference? Just my

yeah, i definitely agree with the above statement. why burden yourself with concern as to whether or not your tails will last? oem ftw when it comes to this kinda stuff. why risk it? you get what you pay for...gotta be careful.

DEPO lights are fine. They are OEM quality (the even make OEM lights for some cars). Quite a few members here have the DEPO TL-S tails and have had no problems with them whatsoever.

^I dont think there is a DIY, probably because they really are easy... I mean like.. pop right off, plug in wiring adapter thing to new light and pop back in... literally takes 1 minute.

the only thing is you will notice the smoked sidemarkers have a bigger hole to put the adapter into so you have to make it fit and before you pop it back in make sure the lights work. other than that it is a piece of cake.

Wink Update on sidemarker install.....

For those of you not liking the "force the little plug into the offset bigger hole" to install your TL-S side markers on your base TL(that just doesn't sit right with me, even though it works just fine), I'm working on a solution. I'll post after parts come in a confirmed to work

Have you tried it... I can't think of any solution that I would pay for that would make me happier...

Replacing the plugs with an 08 plug that would make it fit would require too much effort on my part. For something that isn't seen and won't burn out (like regular bulbs) I'll stick with the square peg into a rectangular hole solution.

But then again, this article was directed at "those of you not liking........"

Props if you can get this done for the right price!

It definitely fits......already tried it and it works just fine. I'm just a perfectionist My solution will truly be plug-n-play and a cheap fix for those afflicted with OCD...lol Simple matter of replacing the existing 2 prong plug with a 3 prong plug....and no wire cutting or splicing!

Wink Waiting for the parts to arrive

No pics yet until the parts arrive.....but if you want to test the install yourself, pull your side marker out and unplug, pull bottom plug of tail light out and plug into side marker....same plug. I just ordered a 5 pack of that plug assembly from the dealer for $7.00. Just take the 2-prong plug apart and replace with the 3-prong plug...obviously one terminal will not be used. Voila.....plug-n-play.

I have a very similar problem. Impulse control. While $7 is VERY reasonable, and 30 min install is VERY short. I want them in there NOW!

I think its a great solution! And if I was more OCD than Impulsive I would order the parts and do it the right way.

There are two negatives that I can see to this... if you want to change the side markers back.. then you have to change the plugs too (good thing you kept them with the old side markers) and 2, confusing the polarity... did I mention I'm stupid too?

Props.

Lightbulb I need to seek professional help....nvm, they're all quacks anyway!

The balance between my OCD and impulsive behavior is a VERY fine line...a regular Dr. Phil episode in the making....LOL

I've no intention of swapping the old ones back in, although that would be another quick deal. As far as screwing up the polarity, you got a 50/50 chance...(j/k...no worries in that respect; pretty handy with electrical systems )

Wink It's official!

$10.00 (have to buy package of 5 plugs) + 10 minutes to make your TL-S side markers plug-n-play So find a bud to split the cost of the plugs and it's a whoppin' $5.00 to do.

Very simple install that only requires 2 jewelers flat blade screwdrivers to perform.

My OCD is appeased.....

Question: I have a 05' SSM and I was wondering if the group buy TLS rear sides markers are the same color/tint as the 05' front side markers? Currently my rear markers are red as are the tails but the fronts are slightly tinted...
