Greetings!!! New TL-S Owner checking in (with a few Q's of course!).

Hi Everyone in TL-Land. I picked up a 2008 TL Type-S on Friday. WDP, 6-SP, 41k miles. Has some DARK tint and an Injen CAI, otherwise stock.

I'm coming from a 2001 CL Type S that I've had since 2004. That car was my daily for over 150k miles. Of course, the tranny was replaced, but it was done at 114 and Acura paid for it.

I've been searching for a new DD for about a month. Initially, I was looking at 03 CL-S with the 6SP. It became apparent that to get one with the mileage and condition I wanted, it was putting me much higher than I wanted to spend on a 10 year old car. When I started looking at 3rd Gen TL Type S cars, I found one fairly local with low mileage and a great price... had a deposit on it the next day, and drove it home a little over a week later. I stopped on the way home at a friends shop and mounted the winter tires the seller included (previous tires were original, and 2 of the 4 were slicked).

I love this car so far. I missed driving manual on a daily basis, and I'm so excited to have that opportunity again. This car will be my DD, so the mods will stay light. I'm really thinking only coilovers, maybe remove the tint and go with something lighter. I have a hobby car that gets the mod money. First things first though, all the fluids will be replaced next weekend.

On to my questions:
Do I need to use Honda fluid in the transmission? I use Amsoil in all of my other manual cars, and love it, but I know the Acura/Honda Autos are very picky on fluid type. I'm assuming since it's only a lubricant in the manual, Amsoil will be find, but am interested to hear your opinions.

After spending about an hour idling in my in-laws driveway (as I entered the HFL phone book, etc), I got a P0171 CEL next time the car started. My low fuel light also came on at the same time. Consensus here seems to be this (and other lean codes) pop up sporadically on these cars, just clear it and see if it comes back. Thoughts?

What's my interior color? It's a two-tone, beige seat, black panels, w/ some faux-CF and aluminum trim (see last pic).

Most importantly, some quick pics:

Interior color would be "taupe/ebony". I have the same interior as well in my TL-S. congrats on your car!!!

gm syncromesh friction modified for MTF

it provides all the essentials of RAPE

my 3rd gear when i first got my car in august at 103xxx now at 118xxx had slight pop out, grinds, and a bad feel when trying to push gear lever into gear...

but after fluid swap its fucking moist

as for mods do what you feel is best but the tint seems fine as is, i'd get coils first and if you do not like the tint than deal with it from there

Thanks guys! I'm gauging the tint daily. At night it hasn't seemed too bad so far. I'd prefer something closer to the 35% I had on my CL (15 on the rear window), but I know what a b*tch it is to remove. I'm not positive on our local laws, but getting pulled over for it would certainly affect my decision.

I'm thinking of disconnecting, or coming up with a better solution for the DRLs. I'm not a fan at all. The lights are very conducive in design for a set of halos but, I'm not a fan of those on something other than BMWs. I guess I'll scour the board for a few other ideas.

NIce Type S!!!! I know this may sound weird but I think the type S headlights look perfect as is. Even the DRL's look cool I think. I have looked at Type S 's behind me and something about it. Anyway, only other thing I can recommend is get yourself the painted version of those OEM splash gaurds they look real nice. Also, like others have said get the GM tranny fluid. I have done it on mine and its amazing. Tranny shifts perfect in any temp so far I have used it in 100 degree and down to 5 degrees. :-)

Awesome Type-S (I'm partial to the WDP). Congrats and welcome to AZ. Register it at www.myacura.com and store your Navi and Radio codes there for safe keeping. As far as tint, I ran 20% and it looked great..... Just disable the auto day/night mirror.

Since GM Synchromesh FM is no longer available for purchase (unless you find it at a local dealership), the new product is AC Delco's Synchromesh FM, which is the same material. Just my .

Nice Ride!! Any pics with the 35%? I'd like to compare it to mine.... still contemplating the darkness.

I paid $18500. The car needed new tires, but otherwise was great. The previous owner never mentioned a CEL (go figure), but it disappears almost as quickly as it shows up. It seems to only come on when the car has been idling for an extended period of time. I'm thinking the O2 sensor may be getting tired and just throwing a bad A/F for an instant. Time will tell. Such an awesome car. I really missed a daily stick.

My hobby car is a 2002 BMW M Roadster. I bought it as an "engagement gift to myself". I've wanted one since they came out and always kept an eye on the market. In 2008 when the economy started it's tumble, people started dumping "extra" cars and the market seemed to drop close to $10k, so I decided it was a good time to spend some $$ before the bank accounts were combined. I'm very active in the Z3 community and started to AutoX with it last year. We drove it to the BMW plant in Spartanburg for ZFest last year and it looks like that will be an annual vacation for us. I like working on cars almost as much as I like driving them -- it helps keep me out of trouble.

This is an old pic, the exhaust and license plate have since been updated:

Performance mods now are: TC Kline Coilovers, Urethane Subframe bushings, Strong-Strut Brace, headers w/ Eisenmann Exhaust and 3.73 LSD rear (stock was 3.15 LSD).

Good to know, Thanks!! I haven't heard from the guy who was getting it for me, so, either, he was able to locate the GM stuff, or his supplier told him about the AC Delco update. I'll make sure I mention it to him in case he gets any questions.

Another quick question on the forum: Where should I be searching for lighting modifications? Is it perfomrance mods? Electronics? Having issues with finding some of my terms.... maybe I'm just "search stoopid".

This should help what you're looking for specifically.
