Cool Got owned by a 2009 accord EX

My 2006 non-navi 5AT, with 40,366 miles got owned this morning by a 2009 accord. Early morning, 5:30 am, on a nice stretch of the 710,I was doing nd 70 MPH, not a car in front of me as far as I could see.
All I saw was a pair of headlights, coming up pretty quick on my rear. He gets next to me, looked like an older gentleman in or about his late 40's. He gets up in front of me and I notice he still got the stealership plates and it is an EX model. This guy actually rolls down his window and yells "is it an auto?". At 5:30 am, this guiy here is crazy! So we are now doing about 80, gives me the headpop, sounds the three horns and we are off. I did not know how fast my TL could go from 80 to 100, wow. I looked over, the accord is a car lenght in front wowzer! I was at 125 and could not catch up, I retreated. I do not do this kind of behavior, but I was really dissapointed.
It was about 68 degrees this morning, running 38 psi in front and 35psi cold. Did not notice how they were at the time of my shame. I know the psi cold, because I checked them the day before, as I also did an engine oil and trans 3 quarts empty, re-fill. I now realized the TL
A) is to heavy of a car or too slow
b) I think it is just a car to get from point A to point B in comfort
c) time for an upgrade, if it is speed I desire
D) None of the above, I just was curious at what it could do and got owned by A 2009 Accor EX.
I got owned by the accord(which was also an AT), I do not condone this type of behavior, but no traffic or cars in front of me at the time. I knew that I was not buying a super fast car at the time but wow got owned by a lesser valued 4 door sedan!

lol you will be amazed. I got owned by a Accord Coupe V6. And when I say owned I mean owned. The accord Coupe puts more down at the wheels than the TL. ALso yours is a 5A/T. The TL is slowwwwww

The top of the line 2009 Accord has 271 hp. With the 6 speed manual, it should run the quarter mile in 14.5 and 0-60 mph in 5.9 with a good driver. That should be about equal to the TL.

So I would think it wouldn't own a TL, but it should keep up with it.

umm, I dont think so. The TL is much faster, its faster than the S2000 For christ sake, stock for stock. TL is not slow, its a proper Mid Sized sedan. Maybe you need to learn to drive better, but going in a straight line isnt that hard.

Why are you guys bashing the OP's driving ability? 258hp car, automatic, wow how else can you drive it? Get over yourselves, TL stock is not a fast car. Its quick for daily driving but a slow racer. And since when were TL's able to take s2ks? And those new accords are very quick. And they look nice too.

The TL is a great car to get from point A to point B in comfort. It's quick for what it is and the looks both inside and out are amazing.

With that said, it's very far from fast. Faster than the average car but not fast. If you bought it for performance, you will be sorely disappointed although the handling is surprisingly good. I couldn't be more happy with my car other than the paint quality. If I were looking for performance there were many other cheaper and faster cars out there but they didn't offer what the TL does.

Was it a V6? If so, don't be too surprised....they make 271hp, and put over 200whp to the wheels for the AT model, similar to the TL 5AT.

The 6MT V6 accord is even faster, at 14s@102.5mph according to motortrend, that's faster than the fastest mag time of the TL-S 6MT which did 14.1s@101mph.

Now, both of those times are on par with a S2K, but the S2k can only trap at 100mph.

The TL is a very slow car, it puts down maybe 220 hp to the wheels it's more like 215. Its sad I bought the car thinking it had 270 hp in 2004 then they changed the way they rate hp. I hope the 2009 is better I am very sick with Honda. Might just get 2009 G37.

I am not surprised with that result.
one time i drove 05 Auto TL over 100 mph, the car is just not accelerating as what those HP and displacement suggest, the thing i have noticed is that, since Honda has to stick with a 5-speed auto and want great highway MPG, the whole gear ratio is set for more gas saving instead of those closer ratio one found in other car.
Once you redline at 3rd gear and switch to 4th, it drop below the vtec rpm. You no longer can feel that much of push.
Quite a while ago i drove a 06-07 accord 4cylinder 5 speed manual, man that car is pretty fast for a 4 banger! and get great MPG.
Hey, the 09 Accord is a newer generation, and you didn't mention whether it's a 4 door or 2 door EX.

I see that the new V6 Accord has 254 ft-lb of torque @ 5000rpm. What does a 2006 TL have?

accord ftw!

but all jokes aside. i've beaten 2g and 3g tl's by many lengths before. the best was a guy thought i was spraying on him so i said at the light "well ill pop my trunk and my hood at this next gas station if u dont believe me" he then believed me..

i have yet to run a TL Type S but i know i'll get my ass handed to me...i'm still stock right now but not for long!

Well, almost everyone's hp dropped after that change in measuring hp. And really, back in 2004 the TL was pretty much the fastest in the segment along with the G35. What did you expect from a 200-200whp car? If you want speed in this segment now, there are IS350 and 335i too. Those I believe put down 275whp.

The ratings changed, the actual hp did not. Engines now have to be dyno'd with the actual intake and exhaust that are going to be used in the model of car the engine is going in along with all accessories. I also believe there's more regulation on barometric pressure, intake air temp, etc to make sure no one cheats.

Before '06, the manufacturer could run the engine with maybe a straight open throttlebody and 6" exhaust on the dyno if they wanted to. Some were inflating the numbers like most foreign cars that "lost" hp. Certain cars like the Z06 went from 500hp to 505 with the new rating system. Most domestics stayed the same.

I raced the ex's 05TL with my brand new 06 pulling out of the dealership and I put half a car on her so hp is the same. In other words your car always made 258hp, now the rating is correct.

the 270hp or 258hp is the crank horsepower. The 200-220whp is the WHEEL horsepower, the power that actually gets to the ground. You see, from the engine to the ground, there are components in between, like the gears, shafts, torque converter for AT, rims, tires, etc. There are “losses” along the way. Every car is like that, don’t worry too much. Typically the difference between the crank hp and the whp is around 10-30%, depending on AT or MT, FWD, AWD, or RWD, weather conditions, and the dyno machine used, etc.

Not neessarily, etiher:

Wallpaper of the 3rd pic here.

Granted, stock for stock, and comparing the looks of the US version to the TL, the TL wins hands down.

Take out the spoilers and maybe do a more subtle body kit and this car would be very classy. Where can I get a few of these guys?

Whats odd is some people don't understand why, lets make it clear:
3.5 vs. 3.2 L motor
200-300 pounds less weight on the accord

I think the answer is clear

i hate to say this but I think you do not know what you are talking about when it comes to the TL and how fast and mpg wise

I have an 02 CL type S and I am driving an 08 TL while they work on my car.......so this is current experience

70mph in cl type s = 2K on the tach
70mph in a 08 base TL = 2K on the tach

the shift MPH is pretty much spot on with the CL when you are WOT

From standstill the CL "FEELS" faster but in reality they are pretty much indentical in the 0-60 mark.....If I had to make an educated guess, I would say that the drive by wire is programmed to hold back on the throttle unless you REALLY get your foot into it because I find myself having to push pretty far down to get the car moving on the TL*

* I have not driven a type S 4th gen so I have no idea if the throttle is programmed different, but I would guess that it is...

I have had this loaner car for a week and during that week my average is 28mpg with majority side street driving mixed in with about 40% highway.........

IMHO Acura pretty much lifted the Type S drive train and uses it on the base TL based upon HP output with some massaging to make it slightly stronger..

MT did a 04 TL test and the best they could do was 5.7 with the stick.......auto is about 6.2-6.3 if you read the CL type S reviews

I have not had the chance to drive the 08+ AV6 but have driven the base 3G TL 5AT and (as I have indicated repeatedly on the forum) find that it seems to have the same "pull" as my 07 AV6 5AT....which should get walked on by the 8G AV6. So OP's post sounds very believable.

As for the S2K ref, my friend's stock AP1 already ran a 13.8 @ 101.XX mph which should edge the TL-S 6MT...then again he is an exceptional driver for a Hondaphile.
