Got an orange "engine flashing" sign in 3rd gear SS at 5000 rpms
Was on the highway tonight doing some aggressive cruising.. and while in SS mode, I had the car in 3rd going about 5000rpms .. and the engine light on the dash blinked a couple times.. and disappeared after i upshifted... didn't come back on when I went back into third or even when i slowed and went into 2nd at 6000 rpms...
I"ve read something about this... what was the deal on this issue?

same thing happened to me and when i took it to the dealer they ran it on the computer and it threw no codes. they said nothing was wrong from what they see. I told them it happens when i us the ss and when i drive aggressive and they still couldnt come up with anything. i read on the board that there is a updated ecu program but the dealer knew nothing about it.

Dealership should have new patch to refresh your ECU... Sometimes there may be some other devices or sensors broken or malfunciton, but lots of ppl get it fixed by simply uploading it... IMO.

The suggested that maybe the gas cap was not clicked down all the way. Not sure if this was the issue but since then I always make sure I click it down really good.

Burning Brakes
tell them to hook up the portable OBDII computer and go for a ride. Have them floor it in SS in 2nd and 3rd and make it blink, then they'll get the codes. OBD has "stored" and "instant" (non-stored) codes.
I had the exact same problem the day I drove off the lot and after 3 times they could not trace it, then with the computer hooked up, they found it was a faulty Crank Angle Sensor, replaced it and it never happened again. After that, rather than properly fixing everyone else's faulty sensor, they "reprogrammed" the ECU to ignore/raise the tolerance of the errors so that it would "go away".
they initially tried to troubleshoot mine as misfires and replaced my plugs and coil packs and injectors, but it never fixed it.
Enjoy

The way Sherlock shows above should be able to catch CODE...

ECU flash is necessary, other factors could be
crankshaft position sensor
valve controller
O2 sensor
Coil packs
Exhaust Gas Recirculating Valves

Btw, Acura may have two ECU flash TSBs.... I got one in Dec. 2003, and there should be another one issuing it should be uploaded to your ECU when certain error codes are showing up.
