Got my ass handed to me by a Galant
Well I jus got out of work after a 11 hr shift. I was all excited ready to go out and party tonite. had the music blastin, no care in the world. I was on the hwy around 85mph when i ended up behind an early to mid 90s galant with a fart can exhaust. I was thinkin to myself that this clown needs to get out of my way so i can make it home. As soon as the guy in front of him moved into the right lane he floored it. I kinda had a feeling he was gonna do that so i was ready for him in 3rd gear at 80mph. as soon as i saw the cloud of smoke and reacted he was already 2 cars ahead. I was like wtf Galants cant do that. So i pulled up to him and paced him at 80 again in 3rd, I floored it first and then he did. We were neck and neck till 6500 RPM and then he started pullin once i shifted into 4th at 7000rpm he was half a car ahead and pulling hard. by 120 he was a good 2 cars ahead. I pulled up to him and gave him the and he did the same. Then we proceed to go into a tunnel and he floored it, all i heard was his exhaust followed by a loud blow off.
I wonder if it was a Galant VR4
Well its time to go party.....be safe guys
On a side note I think i saw the member 01clstock (not sure if i spelt it right) on Highland Ave. I gave you a wave dont know if you saw me.

in case you're interested...this is a portion taken from the '92 galant press release...

The Galant VR-4 represents a successful blend of the finest attributes of a four-door sport sedan along with Mitsubishi's advanced high-performance engineering technology. Mitsubishi designed the Galant VR-4 system with integrated all-wheel-drive, four-wheel steering, four wheel independent suspension and anti-lock braking (ABS) to deliver exceptional road-holding and handling characteristics.
The Galant VR-4 is equipped with the same high-performance powerplant found in Eclipse GSX: a 16-valve, double overhead-cam 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that features turbocharged and intercooled induction, electronic multipoint fuel injection, distributorless ignition, roller cam followers, hydraulic valve lash adjusters and Mitsubishi's patented Dual Engine Stabilizers™.
While the turbocharger and intercooler provide a pressurized and cooled air/fuel mixture, the four valves per cylinder combustion chamber design allows increased flow of engine gasses, resulting in a potent 195 hp at 6,000 rpm and 203 ft. lbs. of torque at 3,000 rpm. The Dual Engine Stabilizers™ spin parallel to the crankshaft and utilize counterweights to help offset vibrations commonly found in large displacement four-cylinder engines.

Stock vs stock, a TL-S should have few problems against the VR4. However, modded VR4s are as quick/fast as modded GSTs and TSIs....which means MAD FAST!!!
It is too bad later generation VR4s never made it stateside.

You can mod any car and put a turbo in it. Once a car is boosted with a nice turbo, it's no longer the same car. A Galant was a Galant until boosted........... hence you lost.

Makes the EVO guys look dumb because their car was available in 1990 (in a lower factory HP rating) in a smaller, more aerodynamic package - the Diamond Star turbos......

If I recall Car and Driver's review of the VR4, their comment on the 'Lows' was that it had 'styling by Frigidaire' .

You can still find them, theres a black one, 1991 for sale here, has 77,000 miles on it, perfect condition, theyre asking like 3,000 for it i think, has a bunch of factory goodies from rallyart on it too...
It is rare car indeed. However, I would not exactly place its rarity in the same vein as say a 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am (of which ~1,500 were produced and typically sells for no less than $15k nowadays).

the VR-4's were rated at I believe 280hp and 271/tq stock and weighed about 3350lbs. Ran 0-60 in about 6 flat and 1/4 in 14 flat. very powerful still and with mods are monsters. I've never seen one in person, but I'd love to run with one just to see how fast they still are.

The 4G63 powered 91-92 USDM VR4 was rated at 195hp/203 lb-ft (a la 1G Eclipse GSX).
The latter gen 6A13TT powered VR4 (JDM) was rated at ~280hp. <---- That should have come stateside.
