when I was buying mine, there were bottles that said friction modified and that didn't. I don't know if it would be the same stuff, or why would they have 2 different names and bottles for the same stuff.

Check the part number. The GMSFM fluid is 12377916.

for us Canadians, there is no GM fluid I believer. What I found was that GM got bought out by AC Delco company. Then I tracked down some places that had it. Chevy dealerships have this fluid, and they all know when someone asks for it that they drive a honda haha The guy at the parts desks was like, "So, another honda guy ey?" and he just laughed.

this is what the bottle looks like: http://www.acdelco.com/i/pi_vehcare_lub_10_4014.jpg

What part number did you get? There are several types of GM fluid.

When I bought my fluid the same thing happened to me. If chevy ever tanked I think they would be able to pull through on tranny fluid sales alone. The guy said everyone buys their fluid.

+1. Come on, Chris. Here's a pic of the actual bottle that you're looking for:

Online source for GM Syncromesh FM fluid

I also have a tough time finding it locally at GM dealers. Here's an online source:

Good luck!

Regarding my other thread on the tranny fluid swap at 17k should I use this fluid when I do it?

That is ONLY for manual transmission cars. If you have an auto, the fluid you need to use is different.

Good point! Those of us with 6MTs that have been on here for years take this fact for granted (as our newer 6AT friends look on).

For the 6MT skeptics (of which I was one), I changed to GM 12377916 fluid at the 60,000 mile point because 3rd gear kept sticking more and more (and I was out of warranty). I had changed it twice with Honda MTF at the 20k & 40k. (It's an easy DIY once you buy a 12" ratchet extension so what the heck.) The GM stuff works, period! Took a few weeks, but shifting into 3rd gear is the smoothest it's been since new.

Hey guys thanks for the part#. They actually have like 4 different kinds so when I bought mine the guy gave me the only ones he had and it wasn't right. They are back ordered on this stuff and the guy actually said he sold them to mostly honda guys lol They are grabbing me 2 bottles from another dealership but a few of the closer ones to me closed down. Now I just need to find another bottle somewhere or a 1/4 of a bottle.
