Mine was instantly better. Sadly, that's as good as it got. Mine seemed a little more notchy when shifting but that's a trade-off I'm more than willing to make to be confident that third gear is actually engaged every time.

I am sorry if I dont know exactly what you guys are talking about, but I am not a mechanic knowing the lingo. What exactly are you doing to the tranny?
I hear micromesh, is the the Tranny Filter Screen your talking about?
and are you using a different Tranny fluid to improve your performance.
Sorry for the noob factor but some of us are still learning.
I have a 05' TL with 90K mi.
thanks

You guys are great at answering things pretty quickly so I am guessing no one really knows if shifting gets better over time as a result of using the synchromesh. I will say it is improved, but 3rd and 4th gear are definitely not as smooth as the other gears. But much improved for sure. I still feel sometimes when I slip it into 3rd its going to pop out...but it never does, at least not in the last week. Which is a good thing.

OOOOOH
Shifting does not get better over time. Someone already answered your question and said it's as good as it's gonna get when you initially change it.
There could be many factors as to why it's not as good as your 04 TL was. Could just be the condition of the synchros themselves.

The GMSFM (General Motors Synchromesh Friction Modified) fluid is strictly for use in manual transmissions. What people are talking about here is doing a drain and fill, as in maintenance much like changing the engine oil, of the transmission fluid with the "fill" involving the GMSFM fluid instead of Honda's inferior product.

Well dumped the honda fluid and put in GMSFM and what a difference! I took it for a drive going through 1-2-3-4 quite a bit and 3 and 4 never popped out like it used to everytime I took her out!
Love it, hope it stays this way.
