GM Synchromesh Availability/Alternative?

So you think because he ordered 7 qts that he's going to put all 7 qts in?
The manual says 2.3qts, NOT 2.5qts. And yes, that little bit can make a difference.

I just purchased 7 bottles from http://www.gmpartsonline.net/

This is what I used and I believe I used about 2.5-2.7 (plus stuff dripped out for a bit so it probably is a good 2.4-2.5. It's been 2K now and no issues and it hasn't popped out of 3rd since I put in the fluid!

I went to the local GM Dealership (in Canada), and bought 6 liters (quarts) of the AC Delco fluid. My step-brother is a service tech there, so I got it for $9.00 per liter. Typically it sells for $15.00 per liter here. I got 6 liters because I plan to change the fluid in my car and my wife's car (and will likely still have a liter spare).
Just to confirm, the AC Delco fluid sold in Canada is the GM Syncromesh fluid sold in the US. All they've done is put an AC Delco sticker over top of the GM label.
I just did the swap in my '07 TL-S, it was ridiculously easy. Took me all of an hour - start to finish. The hardest part of the job was removing the plastic clips that hold the plastic cover on the underside of the car. No need to remove any parts on the top-side of the engine, you can access the fill bolt without removing anything. Just a 3/8" ratchet and a couple extensions, and give it a good yank to get it loose. Both the fill and drain bolts came loose without too much trouble.
I can definitely notice that it's a lot smoother shifting! I'm going out to the garage to change the fluid in my wife's Acura now. She has a '99 and it shifts like crap (don't think the tranny fluid has EVER been changed), so I'll be really interested to see the improvement on her tranny...

'99 Acura EL.
5 Speed Manual
The EL was only available in Canada in '99. It is basically Acura's version of a glorified Civic, with a V-TEC engine, aluminum wheels, and leather seats.
Anyways, since changing the fluid in her tranny to Synchromesh, all I can say is... WOW! Massive improvement. I noticed an improvement in my TL-S, but in her car it was like night and day!

has anyone bought from gmpartsdirect.net lately? i went on that site to buy the fluid and i couldn't get the website to come up! the only other place i see that sells the fluid is gmpartsgiant.com but they want $11 for shipping to cali and I wanted to do a price check on it. What did people pay total for 3 bottles and shipping from gmpartsdirect.net (assuming that their website is only down temporarily)?
if the website isn't valud anymore i'll just go with gmpartsdirect, since the GM synchromesh results seem amazing on acurazine.
thanks

try gmpartsonline.net I just ordered 6 quarts for $44.15 then $12 for shipping. Now I'm good for my 60k and 90k manual tranny fluid change. It takes about a week to come and mine should be coming in on Tuesday. Hope this helps. =]
For those that want it right away its usually readily available at any GM dealership. I paid slightly more but I went down the street and picked it up and did my fluid change same day.
I can get the AC Delco stuff here locally from my distributor for $11.07 each plus tax. Funny thing is they sell it to the public for $18.91 ea.
I'm gonna change mine the next time I change the oil.

local dealership says the part number is deleted so they don't carry it anymore...then i ordered 6 bottles (for 2 changes) from gmpartsonline.net and they just wrote me back today saying that they are all out of stock...looks like i'm going to have to use gmpartsgiant.com ...anyone know of any other sources??
Pennzoil Synchromesh is the same exact stuff and is almost half the price. GM puts it in their own bottle and does a mark up. Actually Pennzoil has gone up a bit. I used to buy it for $3 a quart 6 or 7 years ago at the local auto parts stores.

I don't think they make friction modified anymore. I didn't think GM had it either, but I haven't paid attention to it since I don't have an auto.

But it looks like you may have to call them. When I search "12377916" on their site it comes up with the GM FM, but it says it's been replaced with a new part number. When you go to check out, it has replaced the GM FM with a pump of some sort for $200!

It's dotcom, not dotnet.

so i got refunded and went to www.gmpartsgiant.com. i ordered 7 bottles and they shipped today. but when i checked my order they said that the part number was replaced by 88900399 which is the AC Delco stuff. i'm going to see what shows up at my door and possibly return it if it is not FM. anyone know of any other websites that sell this GM FM stuff that doesn't charge 30 for shipping like paceperformance?? this is becoming a tough change out haha

Yeah just go to a dealership. Dealerships all over the Chicago area stock it. Im surprised people are saying its hard to find. I just drove down the street and they had tons of them.
just got my order from gmpartsgiant.com...it's the ac delco stuff since they dont' have the gm labeled one (dont' carry it anymore), and it says friction modified on it. cost me 10 bucks per bottle and then 12 for shipping, i got 6 bottles
i tried going to the dealers but they told me that no dealers in southern california stock this fluid anymore (the gm label one).

i typed in PN 12377916 on gmpartsgiant.com and it says $10 a bottle but all it says is Genuine GM FLUID. it doesn't say anything about being friction modified. is this the same part number you used?
I just received it yesterday and will put it in this week..from what I read in the forum this is the same stuff.
yea that is the correct part number and bottle...however when i went to order it they replaced it with another number right before they shipped it...88900399 which is the AC Delco Friction Modified stuff (said the GM labeled one is not available).

yesterday i was changing the oil on my 6MT tl-s...i figured i would do the tranny oil switch at the same time... my car has 56k on it and had it from its 3rd mile.... i dont think my car has ever ran better than how its running right now...i cant believe i waited this long to switch to mobil 1 synthetic and GM synch for the tranny... Def a must do so i would have to cosign with all of these gm synch threads... when people talking about a smooth shift, theyre not lying... i also have the corsport bushings, and ct short shifter... next is my clutch upgrade
the local gm dealers around me stock these. i recently did the transmission fluid change and slave cylinder check valve and boy what a difference! feels like im driving a different car =D

I picked mine up from local NAPA parts store for 20.00 a quart. Best mod hands down I have done so far.
I notice it every time I drive. Ohhh soooo SMOOOOOOOTH!!!!

This. I don't believe in magic potions - except for GM Syncromesh. My 3rd gear pop went away and all of my shifts are now butter smooth. I got mine at Lordco, out here.
well i ordered mine about a month ago and i have the regular ole GM stuff. i know that the part number had changed but as far as i know its the same bottle... i havent even put it in the car yet... since i been too lazy/busy....< isnt that an oxymoron?
Is there an expiration date on these things? i just went to a local parts store that had 3 bottles left so I bought them. They come in a white bottle, not relabeled... These must've been the first bottles ever by the looks lol. Everything is still sealed.

it's very hard to find the GM stuff so i got the AC Delco stuff, members say it is the same. 1x3 is enough. i bought 6 bottles of the AC Delco type just because it was hard for me to even find that and it had to come from the east coast.

I switched to ACDelco 3 weeks and there is quite a bit of a difference.
My TL had 58K and the stock fluid didnt look so bad either, had no problems with any of the gears and 3rd and 4th go in much smoother now.
