GM Synchromesh Availability/Alternative?
i found the fluid at a local North NJ chevy dealer for ~$13/qt about 6 months ago....had the acura dealership install the fluid last week....no more 3rd gear issues!! another satisfied GM Synchromesh customer!

Old thread bump, wanted to subscribe as I need to look in my manual to see how longs it's been since I've swapped to GM Syncromesh. If it's been 30 to 40K...I think I'm going to go ahead and swap again. Fluid doesn't last forever, as it breaks down so I'm wondering how much smoother a fresh batch would be for me.
I just bought 3 quarts this past Saturday at a local Cadillac dealer; the local Chevy/GM dealer didn't have any in stock and told me I'd have to purchase/order a case.
I think I paid $16-17/qt. which seemed rather reasonable.

Fk, wish I'd have known that, I was just at Cadillac to buy my wife a car.
BUT, at that price, I'm almost better off buying it online, no? If it's truly $8 per bottle plus 10 shipping.
I think I'm going to do mine...can't hurt to have fresh fluids in there, right? Rhetorical question, obviously.

Thanks Quan...heard you did that and the shifter bushings...and the SS. You happy?!
I'm going to do the bushings, I think. I forgot my Father in Law works at Cadillac, I'm going to ask him to see about getting em at cost.

You wont regret it..i gotta check my manual too
but i think ima just change my fluid when i change my clutch
I did the fluid and the shifter bushings last night and am pretty happy. The feel of shifting has greatly improved for less than 70 bucks. I just can't wait to install the short shifter and weighted knob

Well, Lucky for me, I have warm weather and a lot of free afternoons.
Quan, thanks for letting me know...just WAIT till you get the short shifter.
PS...I just won this auction for 22 bucks shipped for some crazy composite bushing set for the shift linkage. Looking forward to putting it in there.

i'm also at 30k from my last gm synchromesh switch, maybe i should do mine too...
did you remove the whole airbox? any other insights for when i do it? my hybrid racing bushings come in next week from Heeltoe (hopefully)...excited for the bushings since it completes what i want for the shifting feel

I removed the whole airbox (top and bottom) from the throttle body. It was fairly easy and IIRC only like 3 bolts.
Then you'll have clear access to the linkage. Removing the bushings wasn't that bad; just pull put the pins and pull the bushings out of the linkage. Then used a flathead screwdriver to remove the metal top portion of the bushings, and then I put the screw driver through the center of the them and popped each one out. All you do is slide in the new ones and put the round clips on the puttom as well as the clip on top when you reinstall them. It took me about 25 minutes and I'm slow AND nowhere near professional level. There's also a couple DIYs

I'd do the fluid too if I were you since the fill bolt will be right in front of you

Hmmmm...with a long extension, I've been able to get to my fill bolt without an issue without ever removing my airbox. Just FYI for the future. I've got 30K on my GM tranny fluid right now, so my father in law IS in fact picking up a few bottles for me that I'll get this weekend.
GREAT, just read up on the heeltoe website and they're very negative about the delrin made bushings although at $22 shipped, I'll take my chances. In a way it's counter intuitive...it says that you want that tight crisp feel but then is made to lessen the feel with the bearing in the middle. Oh well...if it sucks, I'll reverse it. I'll even test out feel while airbox is still out.

Thanks for all the info, Quan.

Spoke with my Dad in Law...he says they had to scrounge up 3 of those part numbers at the dealership cause they had them but didn't know what the fk they were. I think they have officially switched to Delco. He picked them up for me, local, no shipping, and the same $9 a pop you'll get online. Can't beat it! That along with the bushings for the shift linkage...can't wait to give it a whirl.
Well,heres an interesting question.
Just called my local GM dealer with part #: 12377916 , and they tell me that that fluid has been supercede by part #: 88900399, which is an AC delco MTF?
Is this safe to use? what's the deal?

thanks man.
any more insight on this? has anyone used this supercession? just want to make sure before i actually put it into my car.
If anybody is having trouble getting the fluid, I'd recommend calling Greg from crateenginedepot.com, the guy works out of dealership in IL, I've ordered fluids from him before and some other parts, he basically sells at cost and ships quick if you call up, he has a really good reputation on TBSSowners I'm sure he could get you the fluid cheapest. Too bad I have a 5AT.

I put in the white Delco bottle after giving the local Cadillac dealership the Synchromesh part number. Similar results to the first time I put it in. Fkn butter.
I didn't remove anything on 6MT either...long extension on 3/8" socket gets down in there and bam, you're good. I have a long funnel with a hose too and refill. Easy peasy.

awesome, thanks guys. picking up a few bottles of this later this week, along with new slave cylinder (check valve delete), clutch kit, flywheel, and hopefully the Stage 1 Shifter package from Heeltoe,
anyone had any experience with their kit and Maven shift knob?

I just installed the Heeltoe short shifter, bushing, Maven knob combo and check valve delete. Feels amazing, wish I had done it sooner. The only bad part was ripping the console/interior panels out, absolutely hate pulling the little clips out. Weighted knob, short shifter, bushings, check valve delete and synchromesh should be on every 6 MT owners mod list.
