Getting rid of her...

Long story short, this thread here's a cry for sympathy...haha

LATE last night, my car decided to die on me, while I was driving it in the middle of the road. It happened twice, both times going about 20 miles an hour on CAMPUS WAY. The tac/car went CRAAZZYY as it shuttered to a sudden stop; I lost power steering and the brakes when it died. Called Roadside, but ended up taking it off the truck when the guy said that they were NOT liable for any damages that happened to my car on THEIR lot overnight; said f*ck it. He seemed so eager for me to sign, so I thought I'd be smart and take it off. *sigh* Here it comes...I've decided to part ways with my 3G TL. I can't take it anymore; all the time it takes away from my LIFE hahaha. Can't decided whether to go with the Type S...or the counterpart (for us) the GS 460.

*SIGH* We've been through so much together...

Iono...maybe I'm over reacting? You should see my service records over at Acura of Lynnwood; no one's "pack" is as big as mine...hahaha

TO get rid of or not? My car's at 48,010...just BARELY under the warranty cut line...

PLEASE leave comments!!!

Kind of sounds like a bad alternator..

What have you had it in for? Has it died on you before? Are you still using the factory battery or has it been replaced? Is it the 6MT?

I wouldn't waste anymore time. I'll give you $15K for it, and you can go put that down on a BMW.

a tow company thats not responsible for damages in their lot overnight? Sounds a bit fishy, since they charge storage which is partially to pay their insurance that covers cars in their posession.

I'm the same way.

If I can't figure out why it stranded me, it's gone.

It is really strange about a contracted roadside assistance towing service. I would have denied this guy and called Honda back and send someone else.

Also not sure about your statement about taking so much time out of your life. Has it been a problem all along? Mine has taken a lot of time and money out of my life, but it's been an enjoyable journey.

Good Luck

Wow... Things break every once in a while, even on Honda products.

... and you're under warranty.

So the car break down, a quick $300 repair (assuming alternator), paid under warranty, gets it as good as new, probably for another 100K miles,

But instead you're electing to trade in, taking a multi-thousand dollar loss... and considering a BMW no doubt (one of the most unreliable manufacturers out there). Sure it TOO will be repaired under warranty, but having a warranty doesn't mean it wonlt break down.

If you want a new car, that's cool... but have you or the dealer attempted a diagnosis? or are you already chocking it up as a lemon?

Good luck with this one. Sounds like a simple fix to me though. Cars too new to have a serious problem.

engine shuddering? stopping? i wouldnt vote alternator... i would think somewhere along the lines of bad fuel mixture/ignition.... could be spark plug or coil pack...

if the tac was lighting up and going wild and blinking and shit, it might be battery/alternator combo.... like everybody else said...$300 fix POST warranty.... $50 fix (battery) in warranty

man, you guys don't understand! you have NO IDEA how many problems I've had with this car...i've spend COUNTLESS friday afternoons at the dealership, 2-4 hours at a time, waiting for fixes; ie broken chair harnesses, bad navi screens, rattles, etc. List goes on and on...BUT as everyone suggested...I've decided to be patient! The car's at 48,400 now, and the warranty's almost up. I've already had the car for about 3 and a half years now. I just keep thinking about the potential problems I'll have in the future AFTER the warranty's up. We'll see what the dealership says, I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks all...seriously...for making me THINK straight...haha

nbp tls is the way to go, aside from a rattle or two and the noisy rear end shocks it is by far the best bang for the buck...

Dude this pretty much sounds like an emotional decision out of frustration, when you really need a practical one. Do the diagnostic and subsequent cheap repair, versus the thousands lost in a trade or sale. Plus, you can buy an extended warranty. And those other cars, in order to get what you got standard on a TL will cost you much more. Seems like a waste. Plus you aren't going to get top value for your used mods. Breathe and make a good, strong decision.

You said you are considering a GS 460? BIG BUCKS. Get the Type S in a manual, and

WDP !!! BMW 3 series has gotten WAY better for reliability, the other series are the

ones that are much less reliable. I read alot about the new 3 series, and if I had the

bucks, I would be at the BMW dealer getting a new 335i sport pkg. manual in a heartbeat.

This is what I would do. Good luck with your decision.

oooh right...the GS was an alternative to the RL if we (family) wanted a "luxury" car...

it was the gs 460 or the rl; is 350 or the tl-s...tl-s wins ^^ haha

no worries, i'm still PATIENTLY waiting...

Was your VIN covered by the Fuel Pump Relay recall? Mine was, and I never received a notice from Acura. Found the info on this site, took it to the dealer and the work was done. Sudden engine stalling was the failure symptom (though it never happened to me). Anyhow, if you're not sure I'd suggest the dealer run your VIN and check that. Info's somewhere on 'Zine as well (3G Garage?)

best bang

The best bang thing only goes so far... It's the best rattle for the buck. When these cars have about 50K on them it is time to get rid of them or deal with the issues which can run up quite a bit. Going to a dealer (almost any dealer for any brand) and relying on them to fix a design issue is insane.

Trade it get an 08 and toss your money on the table again and see what you come up with. That's the game most auto makers hope people play. And most of use do. Lots of feature still equals lots of potential issues down the road.

If the car is not solid from day one there is not reason to expect it would be after 48,000 miles. Sell it and get something else or be prepared to deal with the issues. And if you decide to trade at 60K expect to take an even bigger hit since most cars at that level are not something that the dealerships want to contend with.

Good luck. The 08 might be a better car, but you have to wait and see. If you want more power go with the G35 or the Lexus IS350. The 07 tests left the type S in the dust, even though acura had the smoothest engine in the group.

And the prices keep climbing to the 40K category and up.

I had a

99 tl paint and rattle issues
01 CL S tranny issues
05 tranny recall some rattles

05 g35 was great but interior not as good until the 07s came out
07 3.2 A4 Quattro which runs great and while not quite the power of the G I do not miss the G at all since traction control came on too soon. The A4 is cheaper to insure as well and costs just as much to buy.
