getting a new transmission tomorrow

I brought it in for B service, and they said my tranny is leaking, and they will fix it... they then call me and say they have the transmission waiting to be installed.
Im wondering, will they give me a new tranny? or a referbed one..

also, what can cause this?

I love to downshift to second on tight turns and floor it lol

Honda tranny's are known to be weak. Will they give you a "new" one BNIB? No. It's a refurb, but you can't complain if it's free?

Remember to break-in the new transmission properly and change out your ATF regularly. After break-in, downshift all you want. It shouldn't "harm" the tranny, just cause it to wear out sooner.

Will not be new. Nice of them to take the initiative and fix it without you complaining

Certainly surprised that they will install another trans just to correct a leaking condition.

read gen2 tranny failure thread- one of acuras reasons to replace the trans is leaking--there isnt anywhere it should be leaking from (aside from selenoids) so if the case cracks or whatever is the true cause--they warranty the trans
gen2s big prob was wearout of 2nd/3rd gear clutch packs from overheating, low oil flow to them

its a refurb trans, assembled in a handful of shops around the country -contracted to do acuras stuff- they do thousands of them~
dealer orders trans, installs-- and returns broken one to become another set of parts..

hard parts like gears and shafts that are still in spec are reused, and new wearable parts are installed

watch the downshifts into 2nd, puts wear on the weak part of the trans
Ok if you are doing it intentionally to rocket off the apex
if you dont know what an apex is,,, stop downshifting at such high rpm!
use the BRAKES to slow the car- not the trans
Use trans to be on the torque for corner exit

Be nice to the replacement trans! - let the parts get to know each other gently,, like it was a new engine, various speeds and useage, but no track days until 1000 miles.
thats just my suggestion -acura says go drive it and dont worry
Which do you think will make it last longer?

What is the max speed for downshifting into 2nd? If in the apex, of course? 40? 45? Good Luck with the new tranny(OP)!

As that is only about 43,000 miles, sounds like the TL has been rode hard and put away wet!

Good luck
