I don't know too many Honda dealers that give loaners in my area at least. I agree - it is a great price.

I'm not under warranty or anything, so I don't know if that qualifies for a loaner?? This is literally my first time at real car dealership lol. Plus I live in NYC which is about an hour away. Not sure how that works. But I was prepared for the long wait. This place is huge, it looks like a walmart parking lot. Dealership and service all in one location.

Most dealerships have the service in the same location. An hour drive for such a deal is well worth the drive and the wait. Hope they do a good job.

Where I live (Brooklyn, NY), usually the service and sales dealerships are located in separate facilities. At least for most brands I've seen so far. I hope they do a good job also! I also told them to do the tension belt for an extra $75.00

Thank goodness they have computers for us to surf the web here lol.

go tell your service writer you want the timing belt tensioner and the idler pulley replaced now

failure to do so will result in their failure down the road--and it will be the same as breaking a timing belt

age min apply to loaners-same as your states rental car laws- 25 in most states

Yeah I told them to do the tensioner belt, but is the idler pulley part of drive belts? Because in the description it says they replace the drive belts.

+1 That's a SICK deal for the 105k service.. I paid $300 for my parts alone and looking at ~$400 for labor at an indy shop.

Well an update guys, they actually finished a lot earlier than expected. Brought in at 8am and finished around 1:30pm. The final bill with the water pump, timing belt, drive belts, and tensioner belt was $497 after tax.

The bad news was that they discovered my side motor mount was broken! They were out of stock on that part. The good news is since I was going to bring this to my friends acura shop to have him install my aem v2, 3rd+4th pressure switches, do the pcm and all, he's going to replace my motor mounts as well. He said the front and side were both broken! His Acura shop said they can replace both mounts for $300 total parts + labor.

My friend who works for Acura couldn't believe they did all that work for the price mentioned above. He said they wouldn't even be making any money that way. He did see that they replaced the water pump and all when he looked under my hood.

So I feel good that Hamilton Honda did a good job. They were fast, friendly, and very helpful. Not to mention their facilities were top notch and spotless. Hopefully there will be no further problems with my car! I can have some piece of mind after I get my car back from my friend. Good day all.

Got a quote from my DCH Heart Acura in upstate NY for the 105k service. T-belt and water pump = $1100. If I want plugs too, they say $1500.

Fuck that. I'll find a good mechanic to do belt and pump for 7-800 and I'll do the plugs myself for $60.

$389 is amazing. Too bad Hamilton Honda is.........near Trenton, right?

Yeah it's near Trenton. How far is that from you? I'd call them up and see if they are going to extend that special or anything. I know today is supposed to be the last day for the special, but hey who knows. Their # is 609-528-2600

And damn, an extra $400 for spark plugs?? Isn't that a semi-easy job to do? I'm going to do it soon also after I buy mine.

Isn't a valve adjustment also required at 105K? I'm sure that would account for at least another 200 dollars!

Hmm, you could be right, I will probably have that done some time in the future along with my plugs, but probably way before I hit the 105K! Thanks!

Just remember that the typical price for the timing belt and needed part replacement is around the $1000 figure. You're certainly not going to get the valves adjusted and plugs replaced for that same price. Those additional services would be on top of the dealer quoted timing belt replacement price.

I took mine to Hamilton Honda this past weekend - saturday. Same thing as donaldso718 mentioned ($497 all in) and good part is everything checked out fine. I brought in my car at 9 AM and was the last person in the dealership to get out at around 6:30PM. I got a free oil change, car wash and a key chain.

I confirmed it with the service rep if the timing belt and other replacement parts they were going to be using were genuine acura...and he assured me that they ordered it straight from Acura since they did not have them in stock for TL's.

Really liked there professional service, friendly attitude and a good deal of ameneties in the service waiting area.

Def recomended.

For my 105k service, I did the timing belt/tensioner, water pump & spark plugs. It was done at a dealer who did it for $950.

My service rep told me I could wait on the valve adjustment since my engine was not noisy and I wasn't having any trouble.

Dealer should use the OEM Iridium plugs.

Should we replace the ignition coils too ? I had a '99 TL and 3 of them went bad at approx 115 k.

Also, is the valve adjustment optional ? What does it depend on ?

McGrath in Westmont. Great service department!

I originally was going to go to Muller's Woodfield Acura because I had a $100 off coupon there, but they were also quoting just under $1600. Then I started calling around and found out how much the pricing varies between dealers. I worked out a price with one of the service managers at McGrath-Westmont. Told them I was shopping around at all the Acura dealers and asked what the best price was and also asked if they could match the $100 off coupon. They run a great service department there. Very honest opinions and willing to work out something reasonable. I did not get the valve adjustment or ignition coils done... just the timing belt/water pump/tensioner/idler pulley and the plugs.

Been calling dealerships this morning. Some tell me the valves need to be adjusted only if the engine makes noise, others tell me it's a must. One dealership even said that the Honda water pump might not fit the TL.

One thing is for sure - the price is about $ 1000 - give or take.

The idler pulley in discussion is part of the timing belt system. Definitely replace, when I pulled mine there was bearing grease everywhere. How long it would have lasted??.. not sure but doubtful it would have lasted to the next timing belt service.

Valve adjustment is a great idea when doing the service. The shop will probably charge an add'l 2-3 hrs but definitely worth it. Make sure the tech writes down all the gaps on the adjustment for your review.

Here's my DIY on the 105k service if any of you guys feel up to the task:

I'm about to get into a TL after selling my truck and I'm not looking to spend over $11,000 so I'll be getting into something with high mileage most likely (unless I come across the deal of the century!!). When I've asked some people with 100K+ miles if they've done these things they either look at me like I'm crazy or say that "their mechanic" said it wasn't needed...should I stay away from these people's cars lol?

Kinda scares me that some people don't take care of their car's like they should....

For an overall recap: this correct?

Timing Belt
Water Pump
Spark Plugs
Valve Adjustment (Optional but some say required)
