getting 3rd gear problem fixed tomorrow
hey everyone,
I'm taking my car in to get the 3rd gear problem fixed tomrrow, the parts came in after being on back order. The acura service rep told me that it would only take them a day to do, (10 shifts).
Is is me or is that pretty fast? Anyone else get theirs replaced that knows how long it should take

First, I've had the 3rd gear TSB done. Second, I've read most of the threads on using the GM syncromesh and even though I still don't really understand why it works, several people have had success with it. That said, I personally don't see why somebody wouldn't get it done, assuming you have at least some faith in your dealership. For me, I like the peace of mind of knowing this was fixed by the "manufacturer" and that if I do end up having problems, the whole thing (from originally taking it in with the problem to the release of the TSB and finally having it fixed) is well documented.
I can't recall exactly how long it's been since I had it done but it's been awhile and no issues since. I read some people having problems with the transmission going into reverse after the fix but I believe all of those cases were tech mistakes and were resolved.

Did mine a few weeks ago. They had the car for four days... but three of those were waiting for backordered parts and they did the power steering hose. Although, they did say something weird to me though, they needed a 2k temp autorization, just in case they found that AFTER they opened up my traany they found evidence of speed shifting or power shifting (b/c then it would be my fault that the tranny failed?). I got a 4G TL as a loaner though... now I'm wondering if I should trade mine in for the 6mt SHAWD that comes out later... hahahaha. THe 4G is pretty tight! Buuuut... I have about 1500 miles on the new synchro and it hasn't missed once. I think it's 'smoother' than my other gears now!

Hmmm... This TSB... Would my CPO '04 be a good candidate for this? Do I just need to bring my car into the dealer and request this to be taken care of, or can I expect some resistance since it isn't a recall?
I don't know if it's still covered, but I encountered some resistance as in them trying to 'recreate' the problem. Because they would absolutely not work on it until they witnessed it for themselves. Understandable I guess, but I had to take my car there a bunch of times before I finally just told them to keep my car overnight and figure it out. I think it happens more in cold weather or cold starts, so I toldl them to just turn on the car the next day. They 'recreated' the problem the same day. I went to Marin Acura btw, I'm in CA.
