Gear position display
Gear position display
Has anyone figured out a way for the gear position display in the gauge cluster to always show what gear I'm in instead of only displaying it when in manual mode? I for one would like to be able to see what gear I'm in even when I'm in auto.

Probably not possible, or, it would be so difficult that no one would want to try it. There's most likely a switch or a sensor on the gear shifter that tells the car to activate the individual gear display.. So you'd have to find a way to tell the car to always activate that little gear display; which im guessing means reprogramming the ECU, or the tranny control module, or the gauge control module, etc etc.
Have someone sit in the passenger seat and use flash cards -_-

Always On Gear Display Indicator
This is a feature I would like on my 2002 TL-S aw well. I'm looking into a solution and will post my findings here. My old Suzuki GS750 had this feature and I liked it. It was more useful on a motorcycle since Neutral is used regularly.
And yep, I can usually tell what gear the car is in by feel except for 4/5. On occasion I will be in D4 rather than D5 for several miles without realizing it

I think I would go into manual mode to check the gear and then back to auto for those rare times when I need to know what gear I'm in. I think the tach is also an excellent way of determining the gear for 4th .vs. 5th when at highway speeds.
Yep, the TL likes to be in 4th gear even in the city. I just noticed that today when I thought of this (old) thread and wondered what gear I was in. I didn't notice how old the thread was but it's nice to see Mojofo has been part of it for 6 years.

I'm not even in a TL anymore. I'm in a CTS-V2 slushie, talk about frustrating. I have no fucking idea what gear I'm in. It's so silent and the trans logic is confusing as fk, I'll switch over to manumatic at 30 mph and it will show 6th, plus it doesn't always hold gear. I used to row the TL ss mode, I just leave the V in drive. I thought it would just take time to get my senses straightened out but no. Maybe I should create a similar thread on CTSVowners.

If you wanted to see what gear you're in why not just stay in SS mode then.. Why try and re-invent the wheel? in SS mode, not only do you get to SEE what gear you're in.. YOU CAN ALSO CONTROL IT :mindblown:
