This guy is right.. You have to be brain dead not to realize the warning light came on, and then not pay attention to the range so it doesn’t hit zero..
This is more of a slap in the face from engineers who believe the average person is an idiot or they just messed up...

The range should be more accurate.. And engineers are not perfect. I do QA with software engineers every day and they make more mistakes then you’d believe.

^^^ the range is accurate....and its calculated every mile.....

so if you have 2 gallons in the tank (ignore the light + reserve for a minute) and you are doing 25mpg, the range will show 50 miles

if you stomp on the gas all of a sudden, you will see the range go down rapidly as you are not doing 25mpg anymore....

I hear you swoosh, but if the range hits 0 the car should be out of gas, that's what i mean.

^^^ well reserve always helps....and its not for people to know you have another gallon sitting for you....

i still remember when my girl first got her car (lexus es) and the range hit 0....she pulled up and called KSDOT for help

when i told her you have another gallon in there she didnt believe me....

again its a precaution and by no means something you should exploit....

You know that the car has a few extra gallons, exploit it if you want to. I believe ABS, TCS, and VSA is a slap in the face to people who know how to drive much more than a few extra miles when the MID says 0. They have to make it safe for the lowest common denominator.

No manufacturer does that.

I know this, i'm afraid this thread has gotten confusing now lol...
I'm on board with you guys. It is what it is. All i was saying is we can't say the range is accurate due the the fact that it's not empty when it hits 0(not a complaint). Just a fact. That's how i was thinking of it. It still does it's job and once you get use to it you pretty much know
