Gas Tank question
New to the boards! sorry if this is in the wrong section(i think i'm in the right place)
I have a 2007 TL-S, everything i've seen(online and the manual) says my tank is 17.5Gallons. I just got this car and have filled it up twice so far with 93 premium fule. I fill it up when the light comes on and it only took aprox 12 gallons each time. I understand that when the light comes on there is usually still gallon or 2 in there but 5 freakin' gallons? i dunno
Just wondering what your experience is like? i usually drive around 300-320miles before the light comes on. And i'm nervous to let it go for too long after the light comes on as i don't want to run out of gas middle of nowhere.
Thanks!

As soon as the orange gas light comes on, It's trying to tell you that you have 1.5 gallons left until your range display reads 0 (Flip through the mid go to trip display and multiply your CURRENT 'AVG MPG' by x1.5 than press the down button to see the "RANGE" display and it's usually pretty close..)
Once the range hits 0 you have about 2-3 gallons left. I've driven 50 miles after my range saying 0 before. I average about 23-25MPG. When I filled up, the car took a little under 16 gallons.
I've never filled up more than 16 gallons, usually every 13-14 gallons (once gas light comes on, or when range hits 0)
Everyone says it's bad to run the gas tank low between every fill up but I've been doing it for over half a year now lol

Are you worried to wait until the MID indicates "RANGE = 0" ??? (click here)
By the way, the most that I have ever "pushed my luck" was to go approx 45 miles beyond "Range = 0" ("Range = -45 Miles")

That is so weird...i guess if everyones TL is like that then i can't do much about it.
Mine looks like the light goes on after it uses up aprox 11-12 gallons. Which insane. Does acura care hook you up with fule if you run out? lol

I just fill up when the light comes on and it takes approximately 13 gallons. This means, I have 4.5 gallons left, so I could theoretically go another
4.5 x 17mpg = ~76.5 miles to
4.5 x 28mpg = ~126 miles
4.5 x 17mpg = ~76.5 miles to
4.5 x 28mpg = ~126 miles
I posted something similar to this when I first got my TL. Wish I had paid attention/known sooner, as I was on a trip through the Smokey Mountains when my fuel light came on putting me in a panic to find gas in the mountains when I could have driven another 100 or so miles. Live and learn!
I drive aprox 37 miles a day to work and back and out of that 37 aprox 4 miles is local(non-freeway) in total. And most of my freeway drivnig is bumper to bumper sometimes. My last fill up did the MID reset and was getting 22mpg(29mph avg) and on this tank i'm getting closer to 26mpg(34mph avg) not sure what i am doing different. Same gas station same driving conditions same route that i usually take. But i did a trip reset when i filled it up last and the light came on almost exactly at 300..so i'm thinking this time around it should be more then that if my mpg is correct. We shall see

brownbuck i did an experiment sometime ago to find this out....
When the light comes on you have ~3.5 gallons left
When the range goes to 0 you have ~2 gallons left....
Depending if you are driving all city or highway you can figure out how much more you can do.....
if am doing city i usually multiply that by 20....and if am doing highway i usually multiply by 30....so you get a range of how long you can do....
kingkongdav is correct....do not run on very very very low fuel or run the gas tank empty.....it really hurts your fuel pump as it relies on the fuel as lubricant.....
here is the thread to my experiment:

Today I drove and when the range hit about 10 it said I drove 323miles
Thanks everyone! good to know i am not the only one with this issue. The dealer i bought it off of has no clue about this. He thinks that the gauge can be calibrated when i take it for service...i'll update if this indeed is true and it's any better.
I'm not so sure it's an "issue" BrownBuck. More like "peace-of-mind" for me. When range hits 0 I know I should stop for gas sometime soon, at my own convenience. I've never put more than 15 gallons in at a fill-up, and obviously never starved the fuel pump. Acura's little safety blanket

If i get 325-330miles before i see the light come on i'll be happy.
Most of you fill 13-15gallons after the range hits 0! so i'll wait until the range hits 0 before i get mine this time instead of getting it right when the light comes on.

I've noticed city driving is not meant for this car. The MPG drops like crazy everytime i drive city compared to highway(yes, that's expected) But it's SOOO much. Most of my current driving is highway but ont he weekends i do get some city in and i can notice the difference big time.
Whenever I fill up I get > 467 range. I drive 80 miles a day 4 miles of which are City and the rest is usually 70mph Hwy. I've been getting 29-30mpg on the MID and 33mpg on my Scangauge. My last fillup was 13.7 gallons with 350 miles driven @53mph and 31 miles left on the range. I can easily drive 5 days a week to work on 1 tank (400 miles) .
Beats the hell out of my 4273lb. V8 300C! Had to fill that up every 3 days no matter what. Best mpg I ever saw was 25. Usually settled around 20 most days.
My TL is basically paying for itself with the gas I'm saving ($10 a day).

Seems like the MID is pretty much set after a while...my MPG has been at 25 for a week now and my MPH has been anywhere from 35-31. Anyways just hit 310miles after i filled my tank last and my "range" says i still have 68miles to go...kind of shocking...but then again it said 108 miles yesterday when i was at aprox 290miles lol...

Miles to empty is calculated based on fuel in the tank and average mpg.
Mine ranges from as low as 9mpg with pure city and lots of idle time to 34 pure freeway. You guys obsess too much on mpg without researching.
I try to fill up at 1/2 tank so the car is always ready to go in an emergency. This last time I let it get down until the light came on just because I was trying to go 2 months on a tank of gas. I made it almost 7 weeks. If I had topped it off and used the reserve I think I could have made it.

It's not that it's not accurate, it's where the engineers decided to put the safety point. I know many people, my GF included that use the light as more of a suggestion than needing to fill up immediately. If zero meant zero there would be a lot of people running out of fuel.
As for the Range feature, it's not likely to be dead on. It's a nice suggestion.
