Gas Mileage

Has anyone checked to see if the trip computer's mileage calculation is accurate. Unfortunately, in Canada it is measured in litres/100 kilometres and measures it in whole litres which is pretty imprecise. However, I am getting readings for highway driving of between 7 and 8 litres/100 kilometres the first week of driving. This is pretty good and indicates I am getting about what is advertised in the brochures.

Additionally, does anyone know why there are about four small plastic buttons on the rear seats? I know there is a symbol inscribed on them but I cannot make it out.

Buttons on Back Seat

The symbol is parental code.

Those are for child seat hooks. They show you where the eyelets are for sliding the hooks between bottom and seat back.

I have three munchkins, but don't use this type of child seat.

I proofed my Avg. MPG calc this weekend, and except for rounding (the TL calc only shows whole numbers) it was right on the money (340 miles over 13.515 gallons = 25mpg).

The miles remaining until empty calc is another matter. That was reading 12 miles when I had ~3.5 gallons in the tank.

Pug, that actually is correct. I had read somewhere in the documentation (and elsewhere in this forum) that the TL has a 3 gallon reserve tank. So, when you see that the miles remaining until empty is down to 0, you actually have 3 gallons left. A fill-up at this point should get you about 14 gallons instead of 17, the max amount. In your case, if you have 12 miles left, that's about a 1/2 gallon of gas, if you are getting 25 mpg. I thought it might be a little off as well, so hopefully this helps.

Yeah most Hondas/Acuras have been like that for years. My gas light goes off at 14 gallons or so meaning another 3 for me.

The avg MPG computer is dead on for me. Every tank I double check and it's always correct.

Good point - I forgot that the 3 gallons is considered a reserve and not part of the main supply. This tank I'm going to try and drive it past 0 miles remaining (I.e. start using the reserve) to see what it does to the calcs. Thanks.

I checked my mileage after a road trip, and the difference was 1.6 mpg. I can understand the trip computer rounding, but not by 1.6
Since this is the first time I have checked it on my own, I will keep doing it to see if it was a fluke or what.

This is from a very long thread I started about fuel tank capacities, etc. and is based on actual and precise testing
a. If you stop at the first shutoff, you will have about 17 gallons in the tank.
b. When the low fuel warning light comes on, you still have about 3.71 gallons left in the tank (94 miles divided by 25.3 mpg)
c. When miles to empty reads zero, that is time to fill up, but you still have about 2 gallons left in the tank (57 miles divided by 25.3 mpg)

If you want to read the whole thread, go here http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...threadid=71425

The average mpg reading in the trip computer has so far been very accurate.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the input. Its nice to know that the computer, for the most part, is pretty accurate.

I would never have figured out the plastic buttons on my own.

I recently got 8 L/100 kms on a long highway trip. Around the city here in stop and go traffic, often more stop than go, I get between 13 to 14 L/100 kms.

Exclamation Re: Gas Mileage

I'd say, yes, the trip computer's MPG/KPG are quite accurate.

But, "Feul Empty Indicator" and "Miles/Kilometers To Empty" are pretty conservative, which is setup on purpose.
