i searched and couldnt find where it was, but i know someone post up how many miles u do have left once the gas light goes on depending how many MPG you are averaging

i have a base TL 2005

if someone can direct me to that thread or post or just let me know here..

is there a 2nd warning after the initial low fuel light?

 

Its hard to say how many miles you have left until the gas light comes on since its dependent on your driving style. But once the gas light does come on, you do have a couple gallons still in the tank. Usually, for city driving, with a mpg estimate of 15 (being conservative here...), that leaves u with 30 miles left. However, if on the highway, you may see an mpg of 30, allowing you to drive 60 miles.

This is probably not the answer you are looking for as there is no real number associated with it. Sorry.

I have not seen our cars equipped with a dual warning system where we have a "low alarm" then an additional "Low-low" alarm. Its just one "alarm".

 

You can drive at least 45miles after the light. There are still 3 gallons left when the light comes on. If you are on the freeway you can drive even more. Just compare distance and mpg's

 

like ankur said the miles left light all depends on how u drive... my lights come on and the mid has said 45 miles left, 60 miles left... depends on wether youre driving hwy, city, rough (meaning fast, hard braking) or smooth (cruising)

and no theres no second warning.... so when u see ur miles getting low and the light comes on start looking for a gas station

Is there anyway you can fix that ..
I mean whenever that light comes up its annoying to go to gas station and get gas like 15 gallon..
I know we have tank of 19 gallons or may be more..
it would have been great if that light comes up at 1 or 1.5 gallon of gas is left.. i mean at least there is a meter on the car that shows how much fuel is left.. then why the hell it reserves 3 gallon of gas for himself..

 

U sure about a 19 gallon tank ? LOL .... I think the most fuel I've put in my TL was like 15.** which means that I still have a bit left in the tank ... don't want to take any chance of running out of gas in my own car ... correct me if I'm wrong our 3G TL has 17 gallon and typically light comes on when there is about 3 gallons of fuel left ...

A quick google search leads me to beleive the gas tank size is 17.1 gallons.

 

Yes, our tanks hold 17.1 gallons. Sometimes I wish it was a little bigger.

Man, I saw this in Ramblings and was laughing for a couple of minutes straight and had to have it as my avy.

 

It simple- the total capacity is 17- the useable fuel from that is approx 16.5--thats all that can be picked up and used.

Is really reallllly bad to run a FI car out of gas, so by giving you approx 50 miles warning to empty--you should be able to find a gas station of your choosing by then

Very helpful on trips where gas stations may be far between- the light comes on- road sign says last gas for 100 miles--you better take the exit

There is a 2nd warning system on low fuel
The engine will sputter- the whole car shakes,,, then the engine stops

Who complains about this handy feature? your useable fuel is ~300 miles-15 gallons
