To those of you who complain about Gas..
![](http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a159/heartblackbnw/Photo_052408_002.jpg)
My trip was from SW Philly to AC...
About 55 miles.
I was actually going 65 to 70 all the way there....
"Let me say this going down the AC express way doing 70 mph is like standing still.

Not sure about that, most of been mostly downhill. I know that since I went from going 80 mph in Atlanta to 60 mph, my gas mileage for my commute is way, way, way higher. I got close to 300 city miles instead of the 220 or so I was getting before with my lead foot...it's hard driving slower, but it is helping out. On the bright side, the Netherlands is paying $12 a gallon, so it could be much, much worse

If gas got to $10 I think everyone would either move to the city of which they work or buy a car that gets 50mpg or better.

I tried calling a friend who works for a Toyota dealership & he told me the Prius is out of stock and I have to wait a month to get one ... I guess similar situation for other hybrids with the gas price inching closer to $5/gl ....
Meanwhile my TL is getting about 25 MPG mixed city/hywy ... sigh ...

Keep in mind the government highly taxes in European countries. Their transportation system would make our looks ancient. It's like comparing a civic to a Ferrari, get the picture? But, I do feel all of you on gas prices... it sucks. 14 MPG BABY!

Keep Right Except to Pass
The people who annoy me when they complain about gas prices are the hypocrites who sit there idling for ten minutes in a drive-thru queue rather than parking and going inside or to a walk-up window. On Sunday I went to the ATM to deposit a cheque. Someone was at the drive-up ATM, so I went to the walk-up as there was no wait. Meanwhile, four cars drove up and formed a queue at the drive-up and they all sat there idling.
A while later, I was hungry so I went to the KFC/Taco Bell near my house to get some chicken to bring home. Eight cars queued up for the drive-thru. I went inside, waited for one person in front of me, ordered, got my food with no wait, and left; in all that time, ONE car made it through the drive-thru. The Burger King down the other end of the row of shops also had a long drive-thru wait.
I suppose if someone wants to waste gas it's his own prerogative, but if you want to waste gas, I think you lose all standing to complain that it costs too much.
Regarding the original post, it's not implausible if he had the car in 6th gear the whole time (except for going through the first tollbooth where they don't have E-ZPass Express). The Atlantic City Expressway is flat as a pancake and relatively straight.

Only 1 problem with your evaluation. If you reset the Trip computer after you get on the interstate and get up to speed, it's a bogus number. You are not taking into consideration the ENTIRE TRIP. I can easily see returns on the MID of >40 mpg if I get up to 60 set the CC and go. If you don't factor in the starting, stopping, acceleration and braking that you do, the number is worthless.

I drive about 16000 miles a year (65% highway). If my TL averages 25 mpg, which it seems to be doing so far, then here is the breakdown for gas.
At $2.25 a gallon, I will spend $1440.00 a year.
At $4.00 a gallon, I will spend $2560.0 a year.
This comes to about $93.00 a month.
If gas went to $5.00 a gallon, that would add $640.00 a year, or another $53.00 a month to that tab, making the cost of fuel $146.00 a month more than if it were $2.25 a gallon.
So gas prices would have to go up quite a bit more for it to be worth getting a different commuter vehicle for myself. After all, unless I pay cash for the vehicle, I would have a payment and insurance and I would still have to put gas into it. Lets say I got a Prius as a commuter vehicle and lets say that I average 46 mpg with that vehicle.
Instead of using up 640 gallons of gas as my TL would, I would use 355 gallons of gas that same year. And since I can use regular (I'm assuming that is the case):
My $4.00 a gallon becomes $3.78 a gallon: $1341.00 a year.
$2560 - $1341 = $1219 = $101.58 a month savings.
The $5.00 a gallon story becomes better. Since we are using regular: $4.70 a gallon: $1668.00
$3200.00 - $1668.00 = $127.67 a month fuel savings for a Prius.
At $2.25 a gallon, I will spend $1440.00 a year.
