Gas cap "woosh"?

When going to get gas, do you guys get a "wooshing" noise(like pressure being realesed) when you open your gas cap? My WRX used to do it all the time when i opened my gas cap, but my 07 TL doesn't do this. Was just wondering if it was supposed to.

My 07 S2000 and my DC2 does that, i guess maybe newer car have their own internal gas pressure valve so it doesnt lose pressure when you open it accidently.

i get it on other cars... more often when gas tank is almost fully empty..... i dont think it happens on our cars because there's a big reserve tank past the empty line... the most i've filled up on my car is 54 litres when we have 63-64 litre tanks....

i actually get that noise ... almost everytime i open the cap, but i always fill it up when i have like 1 mile til empty ... so maybe its true that the more empty the tank is, the louder noise it makes

Perfectly normal, unburned gasoline vapor is actually worst for the ozone layer than a ULEV-2 engine exhaust! Any excess fuel vapor is "recycled" back into the engine to be burned, and no more whoosh when you open the gas cap.

What basically happens is the excess vapor pressure in the fuel tank is absorbed into a charcoal cannister that then has a vacuum line into the engine. This fuel is essential burned when the engine is running. Also if you leave you gas cap off, there is a pressure sensor that can detect it.
