Gas Cap Question...

never really paid attention to this until the wife just got a new car a few weeks ago...

my 2000 TL had the gas cap holder on the gas door cover and so does the wife's new car...however my 05 TL doesn't.

It just hangs from the plastic cord every time I gas up...

should there be a cap holder inside the gas cap door?

The little ball on the end of the plastic cable slips into the slot in the door and that holds it up.

Both my '04 manual TL and my wife's '05 automatic TL have the same gas door arrangement and both have a gas cap holder in them.

If you look at the plastic retaining ring around the gas cap, you'll notice a little "tit" (sorry ladies) which protrudes from the ring, with a "ball" on the end of it. This little ball goes into a matching slot on the inside of the gas door to keep the cap from hitting your car's paint.

guess you do learn something new every day...

in all fairness though, my 2000 had the 'slot' where the inside of the gas cover simply slid into....didn't think the 05 would be any different...

thanks for the tip!!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I still remember a thread started back in 04 with the "gas cap holder being the devil" (circa boltjames).

Maybe but it works and I have never had an issue with mine.
