Garmin Ecoroute - Engine monitoring
So I recently came across this thred and got interested in this Garmin ecoroute thing:

I already had a Garmin so I looked to see if it would work with this plugin. Turns out it does (2595LMT), so I thought I'd try it for $90 on amazon.
This is it here:
It got here yesterday and so far it's a pretty nifty little device. It monitors a bunch of engine parameters. You can only view 5 guages at a time but it monitors about 9 or so and you can select which ones go in which guage). It has a pretty comprehensive fuel economy function along with another readout that shows braking, acceleration, idling, etc. The mileage is real time as well as averaged. And if you put in the cost of fuel it calculates how much you've spent on that trip. More info than most would use but it's interesting nonetheless.
I bought it from Amazon so if I didn't like it I could return it with no trouble. But I'll probably hang onto it. I think the temperature readings (coolant and intake temps) could be useful in determining best intake methods and in what circumstances heatsoak is at its worst. The timing advance is kind of cool as well but I'm not sure exactly how to read it yet.
It's an option for monitoring our engines. Not the cheapest if you don't already have a GPS that's compatible (mine was $220) but if you do, it's a fun little toy

That's actually pretty cool since you can still use the GPS.

It's alright, but if you have an Android phone you can purchase a App called "Torque" for $5 and spend $20 on a bluetooth ob2 plug and have the same thing.
What made you spend $100 on that? Do you not have a android device? If you don't than it's understandable (apple sucks). If you do have android than I don't see why you wouldn't try torque app out before spending $100.

And unlike that garmin app that only lets you view 5 gauges at a item, and only a total of 9, the Torque Pro app lets you view as many different gauges as you want, and there is well over 9 items to choose from.
Completely customizeable. You can make gauges larger, smaller, change the color of the gauges or theme. You can have up to 7 pages (maybe more). Each page can hold about 6 gauges (depends if you set the gauge to display large, med, or small). That's about 40 different gauges...

i have torque too and it's nice.
only problem i have with it is that the track recorder sucks balls. Exporting from a gnex doesnt work.
it's cool to see the coolant temp vary something like 20 degrees as the fan turns on and off. That doesnt even register in the real instrument cluster.
Probably one of THE things to get someone as a gift if they have an android phone.
below is a screencap

Galaxy Nexus. The camera records it in an unsupported format that the sync tool cant handle (but you can playback OK on the phone like shown). Oh well.
Seems like only 1 guy is actively developing it so it's very slow on patching the app.

That would have been a cheaper alternative that's for sure .
I have a Samsung Galaxy S II but I really hate using it for other things in the car. I loaded all my music on it and got a Grom Audio adapter but hated when someone would call or text while I was driving and interrupted it. With the Garmin, it's dedicated and doesn't get disturbed when I get a call. So despite the price, I'll probably stick with it.

Apple's stuff is good. But Garmin doesn't support Apple products for this app. Not that I use my phone for it anyway.....
That and Android is the PC of smartphones. Lots of platforms, manufacturers, individuals and vendors. That also leads to more bugs but IMO it's worth it rather than paying an exuberant price for something with very little extra value.
Oh, and I think Apple is evil. Steve Jobs never died. He's in the deepest of Apple's lairs working on the Humancentipad or something. Hanging out with Elvis and Micheal Jackson and all those other people that never died. Muhahahaha!

Is this real? I’m desperate to get rid of my crappy DroidX and switch over to Apple but I’ve been holding out for a 4G iPhone…I know as soon as I lock myself into a 2-year contract with the 4S they’ll release the next model.

iPhone 5 will be announced/released Sept. 12th or 21st...can't remember exactly, it's soon though.

Walk the walk
Recently got the Ultra-gauge which I needed to look at codes in another non-TL car. It is similar. All the Tl's have a Navi and I don't have a smart phone. I plan to compare the TL's and troubleshoot as needed. Do these reset the TC?

I've used the clear fault feature a few times and it's worked just fine. Had a friend borrow my OBD2 adapter to clear codes on his brothers car and he said it worked just fine also.
