G35

Anyone owned a G35 before - mainly owned Hondas before - so trying to decide between an 05-07 G35 and 06-07 TL - car will be a dd and auto

I live in Toronto so there is some snow in the winter

Driven both and can't decide - any input is appreciated

Thanks

RWD is fun in the snow. FWD works properly (sorta) in the snow.

i havent but it really depends on what you are looking for. Do you want certain features? Does it matter if its a FF or FR? etc.
Personally, I would pick the TL but thats just me.

Yea, the TL gets a vote up for Front Wheel Drive.

G35 is a good car, but the interior isn't super. And, arguably, the TL is a far better looking car. G35s also don't have great fuel economy and with high gas prices up in Canada, I would think twice.
It handles better and is arguably faster than a TL, but it should be far worse in the snow.

Overall, I would get a TL in your case.

Obviously we're a little biased lol, if you have a beater or a 4x4 get the G35 if you like it, if not get the TL, you'll be better off in the winter. I have a RWD car in the garage, and sold my AWD Trailblazer SS cause it was so low it didn't matter, if the snow is higher than my front bumper I'm staying home but in light snow the FWD will do much better.

which G35 are you getting? coupe or sedan? if the coupe I would say G35 but if the sedan then hand down getting the TL is your best choice. G35 interior isn't looking quite nice as TL and our TL offer more tech and interior/exterior looks more modern than G35.

One of my close friends has a 2005 G35 slushbox and he hates it. It's always in for repairs (debatable on any vehicle) and it costs him a fortune to fill up (really crappy mileage around town). Granted, it has a little more 'pep' than the TL and the RWD is nice, but all in all, the 3G TL is a damn nicer car. The interior, fit and finish, and exterior lines are timeless and it looks great modded properly (all Infiniti's look the same to me so they don't stand out).

In the long run, the TL would probably be a better choice (how many Infiniti's do you see rolling around over 150k miles and still getting top dollar at dealerships?)

i had a g35 coupe before and that thing was a gas guzzler!

i like the tl so much more now because it has 4 doors and is just as nice as the G

g35 interior is cheap feeling(plastic) g35 has a terrible resale value

thing i like about the g35 is the exhaust note!

The wife has a G35, I have a TL.

TL>G35

Personally I can't stand driving her car when it's wet, I couldn't imagine it in snow.

Well if your talking G35x then you have a different animal. The TL is far from a snow warrior on its stock tires. I assume your considering a sedan given the 2 choices.

The tech in either car is similar given the G35 has the correct packages. Chances are you won't be disappointed in either.

What a lot of things? Is type S better in a snow than regular TL? Or type S better looking than G35 coupe? Any front wheel drive is better than rear wheel drive for the snow especially TL because it has 60% of its weight distributed to the front wheels.

I think the coupe .vs. TL Sedan comparisons are a bit unfair in some ways. If you really want a coupe then there would be no sense asking the question since TLs don't come with two doors.

For 4-door sedans, I think the TL looks every bit as good as the G if not better in Type-S form. The interior is better for TL. The maintenance and depreciation also appears to be better. The gas mileage is also better with the TL. Real world for a 2007 Type-S is 22.3 .vs. 19.4 for the G35 of same year (both autos)- data from fueleconomy.gov.

I think it really boils down to: is RWD super important for you? If not, the TL is the better choice.

I had an 07 g35s which was the g37 sedan body with a v35hr motor claiming better mpg I averaged 12.8 mpg where a the tl does about 18 for me, mostly city driving. The tl definetly has better interior where as with Nissan I've never had luck and always had bad interior. They always feel cheaply made. The tl is definetly the better choice 12.8 mpg is not your friend!

Owned a G35 '044 coupe and loved it for a while. What I didn't like was the lack of torque at the top end (plenum design), orange/red interior dash lighting and mostly, the front seat belt was digging into my shoulder and I could not find a good seat position that supported my back (back always felt sore after driving).

Don't get me wrong, the G35 had plenty torque that allowed me to start from stop in second gear. The trunk was way too small to fit any big items.

Traded it for a 2004 TL and have been happy ever since. The TL is so ergonomic and found the the seatbelt and seat in the right position.. Power, torque is less in a TL, but overall am more satisfied with the TL despite its shortcomings with the G35 Sedan.

if we are talking about the G35 sedan then I recommend you should skip that option go out and buy a TL instead. / thread.

TL if you want that awesome look. G35 is you want performance. G35 also comes all-wheel drive and RWD for the sport models, not sure what ones you're looking at but the AWD will certainly be a good investment since you live in snow conditions.

Only thing i like about the G35 is the exhaust note, and you really dont get any of that in the sedan (in stock form).

Also sedan looks ugly unless you get the 2007 with the new body style.

Looks are a subjective thing. What looks good to one person does not necessarily look the same to the next....

Sounds like the TL might have the leg up here.

Right brain says g35 coupe (2007+ when the interior got better)
Left brain says 3g TL

Both are nice cars, but the TL is ahead when I make lists. I probably lust for the g35 coupe more, but living with it might be another matter.

My dad has a 2005 G35x and while I love the grip of AWD and the monster amount of low end torque from the VQ engine, I can't stand the interior. It's hideous and overall much smaller than the TL.

I am actually looking for a sedan - for the G35 I prefer the 07S but price may become an issue

I won't consider the X due to the extra weight

I have driven M3s in the winter so I am OK with that (although lsd is important) which I think the 07S has

I agree though that the interior and gas consumption are two key components in the TL's favor

But the more noticeable power and rwd in the G35 cannot be ignored

Tough choice

07+ G35 sedan still shooting for $24k or more mean while you can buy a TL for much less than that.

I suggest the G35x. You can't beat it for your weather conditions.
I went from 04 G35 to 08 TL to 12 G37s.
I will never get FWD again. My G blows away my TL in all areas. This is my personal opinion so back off

IDK where you got that number from, but a 07-08 G35 sedan (NOT AWD) goes for about ~$20k. For $24k+ you can probably find a 08 CPO G35x (AWD)

2007-2008 TL and TL-S both are within the same price range.

If you are looking for one without a factory navigation system it may be even cheaper.

07 TL vs 07 G35. TL because it has left/right blinkers on the sidemirrors, has a backup camera, has foglights, easier to use NAVI.

the only thing I want from the G35 is push start but that is MINOR.

I would skip the G35 and get IS350 instead, that ventilated seat is amazing.

Here in Canada its the other way around, I find the Infiniti's depreciate a lot quicker then the Acura's.

My TL I paid 30G's after taxes and similarly equipped G35/G37 would be 23G's max.

- Exterior Looks wise I think both cars are great
- Interior the TL hands down wins
- Features wise the G35 comes better equipped (smart key system, hard drive media player etc...)
- Seating, the TL takes the win on this. Surprisingly the G35 is small both interior space and trunk space
- Performance, the G35 hands down simply because of the RWD, but the AWD is also good but its much heavier and you feel it....

My coworker has a G35 and I have the TYPE S, sitting in his car I feel the G35 is smaller and the TL feels bigger and is comfortable for long rides....MY coworker sat in my car and he feels the same about it...

Performance- G35
Aesthetics- In the eye of the beholder
Interior- TL
Reliability- TL
Gas bill- TL
Fun Factor- G35
Comfort- TL
Have(ing) kids?- TL
Trunk space- TL
Available mods- G35 (I assume)

Am i missing anything?
