G2 Caliper Paint Kit
G2 Caliper Paint Kit
I planned to paint my calipers red with G2 Caliper Paint Kit. But I heard that I have to sand the calipers. Is that true, if so where can I buy this type of sand-paper and what type of grit? Does the sand-paper comes with the kit? If anybody out there painted their calipers with G2, please give me some tips on how to get the best looking caliper paint. Thanx!

For best result remove the caliper from the carrier, and remove the pads... clean the hell out of them, 2 - 3 coats of G2 paint.
Tip. Mix the paint in 3rds. If you don't, the paint will be setting up and getting sticky by the time you get to coat 2.
I am just saying that in normal caliper painting situations- the wire wheel on drill will take off the layers of road grime and surface rust you will encounter, and a shot of carb cleaner will remove any grease and the suface is ready to paint
Beyond that I have no knowledge of the application of the product you are using
I went with duplicolor black because it was easy

How did u clean ur calipers? Did u just spray with soap and water? Will one kit be enough for four calipers?

G2 is great stuff and I'm with 01tl4tl about a wire wheel for sure. Any good painter will tell you that a good paint job is well over 50% prep. Get those calipers as clean as you possibly can, and then clean them again! Temperature will drastically change the cure time of the G2. Mine took over a day to fully cure since I was right on the bottom end of the recommended temps. Also, since the G2 kit comes with one brush get yourself a package of cheap small paint brushes from a craft store. You will want them. A $1.99 variety pack is all you need.
I G2-ed mine a few years back and they have seen 2 winters and they still look perfect. I had it easy since I only needed to do the rear calipers (MT with Brembo fronts)
This is a really crappy picture but you can see I took my time, disassembled what I could without having to remove any brake lines, wire wheeled and solvent cleaned, and painted carefully. The mark of a hack job is getting paint on the pads, clips and other rubber boots. Don't be a hack.
