G-109: DIY-Eliminate LED Bulb Induced Hyper flashing WITHOUT LOAD RESISTORS
#1044
Just did this mod yesterday when I cleared my headlights and put in switchbacks... works awesome!
...and viet, if you feel like buying another relay and having it shipped to me, I'll mod it and send it your way.

I need 0.24 because i wanted LED's front and rear.
So have had some more progress so far. If i pull out any one of the front LED's the system works properly again. If all 4 LED's are installed, and the parking lights are on, all 4 LED's light up along with the side mirror LED's.
However when i pulled the driver side LED bulb out, the passenger side one got super hot and the diodes started melting off.

Heres some better pics of the relay

Any indication of a bad solder?

I'm using the less expensive VLEDs, the non-triton ones I can't remember exactly which bulb numbers they were.
I think you should use just 1 of the resistors, that LED looks like its toast though.

I have LEDs on all 4 corners and am only running a .12 ohm resistor. I used a 3W resistor, most are using a 1W but that shouldn't really make much difference I just wanted it to be able to handle more heat. Mine is also a precision wire-wound resistor, they're more accurate than the carbon resistors.

Yea these LED's are done, gonna order some better quality cree projector ones now.
And thanks Nebraska but i've got someone who knows how to solder so its all good

If I were you I would just go ahead and just put in a 0.24 ohm resistor. It will work perfectly fine with no LEDs, 1 pair of LEDs, or 2 pair of LEDs.
My friend has a 95 accord sedan and I gave him my spare 0.24 ohm resistor and he soldered it into his relay. His car doesn't have any LED turn signals right now and they still blink at the normal rate with all 4 factory bulbs.
When I soldered the 0.24 ohm resistor I was only running LEDs in the rear for turn signals and had factory bulbs up front. Everything flashed just fine. Installed my ebay switchbacks and they flashed just fine. Now I have Gen 2 Triton v3 switchbacks and it still works just fine.
0.24 ohm set it and forget it. No need to have a hard time trying to get the relay out again.

This is where the Original Poster of this thread bought his from. I'm linking you the 0.24 ohm resistor because it's pointless to go with a 0.12.
A 0.24 ohm resistor will work with NO LEDs, 1 pair of LEDs, or LEDs in the front & rear turn signals. It's what I have been using for 2 years now. Works in my friends 95 accord sedan. He's not using LEDs at the moment but he put his CREE Reverse LEDs in his rear turn signals (they are the same bulb size) and his turn signals flashed at normal pace with his LEDs..

Just a quick update to my situation.
I ordered new bulbs to replace my bulbs that shattered, plugged them in and all is well. So 0.24 ohm is working for me.
If you have a problem with turn signals not working when headlights are on, check your bulbs. My suspicion is that one of them internally shorted or something, causing the heat and diodes to melt off.

Has anyone had a problem of one side turning amber when the parking lights are on? It goes amber intermittently and then changes to while later on. I've swapped the bulbs and its not them acting up since it just happens on the one side. Any idea of what may be causing this?

I was working on a customers car and used a 0.12 ohm resistor, and installed front led switchbacks. No hyperflash as I predicted. Then I installed led rear turn signals. I thought at this point it would hyperflash, but nope, it blinked normally. I never figured out why.

but curious to know now what if I put LEDs in my stock Center fogs 04-06 base tl headlights...iam currently running the two resistor method do I need to assess one more?....25 ohm I think is what I'm at...

The fogs are on a separate circuit, the resistor that is being installed in place of a shunt is on the turn signal relay.
The electrical circuit for the fogs is completely separate from the turn signal circuit.
The interior lighting circuit is separate as well.

All 12v means is the bulb is rated for 12 volts max. Any voltage higher than that will traditionally burn the filament making the bulb unservicable.

Excellent write up. I did this mod yesterday with a 0.24 ohm resistor on my '04 with front switchbacks only. Like everyone else said, the hardest part was getting the relay out... after that it was smooth sailing and now, NO MORE HYPERFLASH!

Anyone have a .24 i could buy from them for a buck or so?
Me and tyler are going to clear my headlights next weekend so i was going to buy switch backs for those and I already have LEDs in the rear and have just been trying to ignore the hyper flashing but its been getting on my nerves lately.
If you've got one please PM me you're paypal for shipping and whatnot

Sorry for bumping an old thread but can anyone help me with my relay problem? I had a friend over at driveaccord make me an led compatible relay using this thread as a reference. I installed it and nothing happened. No hyperflash, no regular flash nothing. Just the clicking but no action. I put my regular OEM one back in and it works but I just get the annoying hyper flash. Dreaminaccord was nice enough to send me another one which I just received today and still nothing. It can't be coincidence, not sure if it's the relay or my car, I have white 1157 LEDs in the front and regular bulbs in the rear. It's an 04 honda accord sedan 4 cyl if that helps.

what resistor are you using?

It doesn't work at all because there's too much resistance... The resistor that he sent you doesn't appear to be 0.12 ohms or 0.24 ohms.
I can't make out the color band fully but it appears the ohm of that resistor is at least 4.0 ohms +.
If you only have LEDs in the front and regular bulbs in the rear you will only need a 0.12 ohm resistor which will have the color band of:
BROWN / RED / SILVER ----- GOLD
Gold is always at the end of the resistor and means 5% tolerance.

^^^ exactly my reason for asking what resistor he was using...well done VIET....
#1079
I'm not sure what resistor is was because he just made it for me and shipped it out. Would anyone have a .24ohms they'd be willing to sell? Or maybe we can work out a trade? I spent $40 on the first one he made for me then 15 to cover the shipping for the second relay. $55 bucks for something I can't even use lol. Anyone be willing to trade relays or sell me the proper resistor? I just want to get rid of this hyper flash =/
Thanks vietxquangstah and swoosh I really appreciate it!

$55 for what? the full relay or just the resistor?
man...thats a rip off...If I remember right Rocky sent me 2 resistors for a buck !!!
