FYI be careful of TLs sitting out in hot sun

I few months ago I contacted a dealer about a TL they wanted way too much and today they called me back to come in and take a look, I didn't need it but I like driving manuals. I went by, it was about 90* today in socal. First thing I touch was the steering wheel then the dash. The dash was so hot I couldn't touch it for more than a second. I'm wondering of all the cracked dashes how many came from dealers who had inventory sitting on the lot under the hot sun for months. Just a thought on why there are so many cracked dashes.

Or just tint your front windshield with 50%. Never had a cracked dash problem yet.

Tinting the front windshield is illegal, though. The other options mentioned are more viable, and legal, lol.

those reflective window shades help
tinting the sunroof helps
303 protectant helps
dealers use armorall type products that dry out and crack plastic in the heat BUT looks good for a few months before that happens~

A smart salesman would have cooled the car down and parked in the shade before you came in to test drive

I had an 88 Legend before my 3G. One day I got curious and stuck my pocket digital infrared thermometer in the small dash compartment. It measures ambient temp when its not using the IR sensor. The car sat in the sun with the windows up for a few hours and I looked at the meter. 162 deg F!! That has got to be bad for any type of material on a dash. BUT... from that day, I became interested in solar heating and now I get to swim in my solar heated pool from early May on into October.

Even though it's a longer walk, I keep my TL-S in the parking garage. It worth the walk and it's good for me too.

Don't clean, or wipe off the dash, while it's that hot either. It will scratch very easily if you do.

Taking the cover off and on will scratch the paint if the car is not clean. Using the perfect fit sunshade from Acura is the best option.

I was just about to say that, and even if it's clean it'ss still scratch the car if you do it often enough.

My 06 has always been kept outside in the NC sun since I bought it. No issues inside or outside so far. The BMW is an 04 which is also kept outside has no issues due to the sun.

Cars are built to be used outdoors & should not self-destruct sitting on a driveway.

I agree, but with temps in upward of 165 F in cars with black interiors, you are asking for trouble by doing nothing to help control temp and UV exposure.

The sun shade was $35 from Acura and fits like a glove. On a side note breathing in 150 degree air can not be good.

armorall does not dry out your PLASTIC. it helps if anything

its not the best (303 would be ideal) but it certainly won't hurt it. (armorall)
