FWD, bad?

I've been trying to get my folks to buy me a car for quite some time. Everytime I bring up a manual 06 TL, my dad always says a manual TL with that HP should be RWD...A FWD only makes it less of a car(something to do with the stability)... is this true? HELP!

RWD would be more preferable to make it an honest sports sedan. I DO find it interesting that he would want you to have a RWD car as they are more likely to be unstable in bad weather.

the TL is not a sports car...and doesn't claim to be. It's a practical alternative..

Welcome to the board!

Honda researched this car to death before releasing it. They probably determined that most of their buyers wanted FWD. I am personally happy with FWD, living in a snowy part of the country.

FWD is not bad, it just provides a different driving dynamic. FWD TL + A-Spec suspension much better driving experience.
RWD also not bad, but has better driving dynamics.

This topic has been beaten to death here, you may find searching for other threads on the debate useful.

Well it just comes down to physics. On a front wheel drive car the front tires have to steer and provide the driving force to get the car moving, thus doing two jobs at once.

With rear wheel drive cars the front and rear wheels work in tandem. The rears provide the driving force while the fronts steer.

Your dad is right but drive both cars and see which one you like. Plus have him drive the TL. I think he will be surprised at how good it drives.

I think front wheel drive cars have gotten a lot better compared to what they used to be.

Well unless your buying the car and wanting to take it to the race tracks every now and then then its not that big a deal if its FWD.

And as Donte99TL said our car is pretty good for a FWD(6MT or 5AT with comptech RSB)

FWD is only dangerous if the torque is uncontrolled. The TL is very controlled. If you want to scare him a little, have him drive a Maxima and floor it. That is an uncontrolled FWD car. I did not buy it and got a TL beacuse i did not think my wife could control it when she drove it and had to pass someone. Let him drive the Maxima first then The TL and he will have no worries.

BTW, who gets a TL from their parents? I am 26 and just now able to get a car this nice and I have been in the Navy since I was 18. I was lucky to get the parents old Grand Am and i had to pay for it. I would have loved to get anything for free. I think you should just be happy with whatever you get. Most people get NOTHING.

Same here, did my time in the Navy and now I can afford all the nice toys in life. But i'll save my rant about parents and TL's for off-topic
