Question Fuel System Cleaner - LP vs. Redline SI-1

Which one is preferred to help minimize carbon buildup and keep fuel injection clean? SI-1 or Lube Control LP

This is for a Suburban Application. I have used the LP along with LC for one tank. I have noticed a significant decrease in motor noise on startup (sounded like Rod nocking, but the "stealer" told me it was carbon buildup. The noise was only evident in the first 1/4 mile or so and tehn went away. I also have a pinging issue, which seems to have decreased, but has not been eliminated. I need to run 93 octane in order to eliminate the pinging - which can get a little expensive in the big 'ol Burb.

Should I use both of these together? What is the recommendation?

With a car with 11:1 compression you MUST run 93 octane, the engine can adjust to use 89, but it is not recomended. When you hear knocking, your piston is wobbling, banging against the side of the block, damaging itself, rings, and the block.

The pinging is in another vehicle (Compression 9.5:1) I asked this forum this question, because I know a lot of members use LP and Red Line SI-1.

I thought I may get an informative answer.

Its called Fuel Power (FP), its made by Lube Control. Both are good, but I usually suggest using Fuel Power.

After that, my second choice would be Amsoil Performance Improver (PI), but its seems to be relatively similar to the Redline product, but I can get Amsoil much cheaper. Amsoil is 1 ounce to 10 gallons, Redline is 1 ounce to 6 gallons, and FP is 1 ounce to 5 gallons.

Michael

EDIT- I sure hope you aren't dumping LC in the tank! Its for the engine oil only!

MW - I am using the FP as you recommended. I just mixed them up from memory. I have seen some comments regarding SI-1 and want to make sure that I am using the most economical stuff.

It seems to get a little expensive using FP every tank full.

stevenr: FP is 1 ounce to 5 gallons, and currently its about $0.27/ounce. Assuming that you fill up 20 gallons each time, that'll be 4 ounces worth of FP @$0.27/ounce. Thats about $1.08.

The only other less expensive alternative that I can think of is Amsoil Performance Improver (PI). Its $51.22/gallon shipped to MD. Instead of 1 ounce to 5 gallons, it is 1 ounce to 10 gallons. Comes out to about $0.40/ounce, so its going to cost you about $0.80/tank if you fill up with 20 gallons.

Although Amsoil PI makes the same claim about dissolving carbon, I've seen very few people use Amsoil PI thus I cannot guarantee you that it'll work as well as FP in this application. I specifically suggested FP for you since I knew that you had a problem with Carbon buildup, and FP has been known to work well for that specific application.

I'd stick with FP since I know that it works well, plus it has been known to significantly reduce insolubles by improving combustion efficiency and removing carbon buildup. I've seem Amsoil PI in a few UOAs, but it didn't seem to work as well in reducing insolubles.

10K run on RL 5w-20 with FP in use

9500 mi. run with Amsoil 10w-30 and Amsoil PI

Note: Another name for insolubles is "total solids."
