Fuel Filter?

I was wondering - where is the Fuel Filter on these cars? I have seen them on an old hand-me-down in line with the carb (smaller than a 35mm film container), and I have seen the big can back by the rear wheels on another car. Does anyone know where on the TL it is. (I have not looked for it - so I apologize if it is very obvious) Just curious.

I will check the manual, but how often does that get changed?

Thanks!

The fuel filter is on the fuel pump in the gas tank. The service manual says it should be replaced whenever the fuel pressure drops below the specified value.

There is no time period given for replacement. Luckily, the fuel pump is easy to remove, since it is accessed through the trunk and you don't have to remove the fuel tank.

What's a good general rule of tumb for replacing it (in miles)?

In other cars I did it every 30k miles which was probably to often - but it was easy to do.

It looks like you don't have to worry about it unless the pressure falls below the specified value. Since Acura doesn't give a mileage period, or list it in the maintenance reminders, it probably doesn't give enough trouble to warrant scheduled changes.

The in-tank filters have shown to be effective and provide long-life, eliminating the need for a secondary in-line filter. It is costly to replace them, so routine maintenance is not recommended, nor needed, except as Ron indicated - if you have a problem.

Extremely strong solvents like toluene can actually chemically destroy the nylon mesh filters used - so be careful about mixing in strong solvents, or even some of the stronger commercially available fuel system cleaners. I have heard reports that BG's 44K can do the filters in, although I have no personal experience to confirm that.
