fuel consomption with my 2004 TL (6spd)

What would a dealer look for in a car that is consistently getting crappy mileage. By the way, this is all taking place in San Diego, where gas isn't exactly a bargain($2.45 a gallon for premium).

I'm not currently having any other major issues with the car except for the overly light steering. But this gas mileage is costing me money that I shouldn't be spending.

Weird, your car seems to take much more gas that it should be.

Most of the time, I am doing small trip with my 2004 TL (approx. 6-8 miles). And I am getting, based on the onboard computer, 12 mpg in city and and a 32 mpg in highway.
Notice that I got 32 mpg without conditioned air, a constant 65 mph in 6 speed.

Presently, my average is 20 mpg (getting this from the gas station bills and from the car computer). I really dont know what to think about that. My car has 2000 miles only and my car takes so much gas in city.

Recently, I have turn off the conditioned air and get very gentle in acclerator but I could not get less 15 mpg in city. There is nothing I can do... my car sucks a lot of gas when I accelerate!

Knowing that trhe 2004 TL should do 30 mpg in highway and 20 mpg in city.

Is there soneone who understand or experencing the same kind of fuel consomption?
My car dealer said that it was normal... and everything will be fine when I reached 5000 miles!

I agree with others who have said that you should take a long freeway trip now that you're broken in, perhaps 50 miles each way, and use the MIL to measure your gas mileage. If it's in the normal range, then don't worry, it's your driving conditions. If not, go to your dealer for an examination.
Ok everybody, so per your recomendations (including Mike's) I'm just over the 600 mile mark. I decided to take a semi-long trip to check the mileage. I took a round trip to Costa Mesa from LA, which is about 49 miles each way. On the way there I averaged 29MPG and 64MPH, No air, windows closed. I averaged 28 MPG and 65MPH on the way back. There were a couple of heavy traffic pokets, but for the most part I was going at about 77MPH.

I figured I could have gotten as much as 32MPG if it would have been with cruise control steady at 77MPH all the way there. So I don't think there is a problem with the highway mileage efficiency. I guess that is how they designed the engine, to suck a lot of gass during accelearation but leverage of the momentum for high effficiencies during highway driving. Any thoughts?

Sounds to me like your car is consuming gas at a normal rate.
