Front bumper peeling?

I bought a used 2004 TL last Aug and noticed a small area on the front bumper that appeared to be peeling, didn't do much about it and thought I'd wait awhile to see how things panned out...not to well
Is this clear coat? any thoughts? should this be covered by Acura as I have extended warranty?
Any advice is appreciated.

Your bumper was repainted by a hack job. Would not be a warranty issue. That's going to be a bitch to prep, for a proper refinish. All of it needs to be removed. If you took a blow gun to that, over half of it would simply blow off.

You can see the paint under the top layer of paint/clear that's flaking off.

Probably was in an accident, or bumper was scuffed and was repainted at one time. Looks like it will be out of your pocket.

I'd bet that bumper was repainted .. and poorly at that ... looks like the prep wasn't any good. The clear coat is failing ... if it wasn't repainted then I'd go after Acura.

Well this sucks...
The problem appears to be on the drivers side only, is it worth painting the entire bumper? I think I'll try peeling off as much as possible first.
When I purchased the car they had a CarProof, the Canadian version of Carfax, and it was clear of any accidents, I guess it was never recorded through insurance.

check your gaps of your body lines on the driver side. I find it hard to believe that a shop would paint only half of the bumper cuz if they did you should see a distinct color difference.

No you really wouldn't see a color difference, especially on NBP. Many body shops do what called a partial panel spot repair. They apply color in a small area, and blend/fade it out. Next, clear just beyond the color fade. Then they apply a blending agent to melt the clear line down into the existing clear. These are cheaper, quicky type repairs. It's very common nowadays. They also like to blend the clear in the middle of the bumper, the plate conveniently covers most of the blend on the 3G TL. This is what happens when they don't do it right, and/or material failure.

Hi RonJon,
I'm new to this site and haven't figured out how to PM yet. I'm interested in your bumper if you still have it. Can you email me at bimmerdukATmsnDOTcom?
