for TL, with the 8ft you cut one 3ft piece and one 2ft piece, then razor them in half, then trim length for exact fit. the extra is for whatever else needs covering.

i suggest cleaning the rubber with warm water with a touch of Dawn in it. then dry, then take Q-tip and wipe down with rubbing alcohol. let dry good before applying moleskin.

if anyone has pics and can write a how-to guide i'd appreciate that. you can email me the pics and how-to and i'll post it.

thanks,

As MRToyz stated in another forum and I have also done it. You dont need to unscrew the 3 screws on the door nor do you need to remove the panel. Just unscrew the first screw behind the plastic cover behind the door handle. Once that is out you roll down the windo and basically pull the panel up then back. Once you do that the seal can be lifted out. Apply moleskin and put back..

Simpler then it sounds.

I can take one window seal out in 2 minutes - and that is going slow.

many feel weary about pulling the panel back. with the panel off it feels better for a 1st time DIY install, probably easier to get at the seal too.

either way, whatever they feel comfortable with.

cheers

Your show the inner of rubber wiper, right? But the key is the outer of it, where those two wipers attach and make contact to window/tint? As the link you show, http://webpages.charter.net/leobecool/tint/tint.htm , it's clean and sleek, too.

Moleskin shortcut

I was going to start a thread with this info... but no sense re-inventing the wheel.

I was doubtful of MORTOYZ claim that he could install the moleskin without taking off the door panels. I challenged him on this board to show me. He invited me to come to Las Vegas and he would show me. I took him up on it.

Last Thursday, I went to Nevada Home & Auto Window Tinting and met MORTOYZ. He has a nice, class operation there and does all the tinting for Franconi Acura, a HUGE dealer in Vegas. He also owns a personal SSM Acura TL. He told me he drives all kinds of cars and when it came time to buy a personal car, he chose the TL over many other luxury/sport cars.

He is a Formula One dealer and one of the first Premier dealers to offer the ceramic Pinnacle series tint for cars with Navi (non-metallic).

He is a straight-forward and pleasant person to talk with. In minutes, with windows down all the way, he had pulled the top of his TL's door panels up^ and toward the inside of the car to expose the infamous hard rubber wipers. He then gripped the wiper assembly and pulled it up from were it straddled a sheetmetal seam. It is just sitting on that seam with a friction hold. No screws or retainers. (I have photos being prepared for posting later in this thread).

MORTOYZ puts the whole 1" piece of moleskin on both 1/2' wiper blades at the same time. I might do it separately. He then just puts the wiper assembly back over the sheet metal seam and reinstalls the door panel by pulling it up and over the top ledge of the metal outer door.

Caveat: My own anal nature would still prefer taking the door panels off to be fastidious and not to stretch anything out of shape. But, MORTOYZ backed up his claim that he had a shortcut method that works. Ergo: my humble apologies for doubting you, Dude!

MORTOYZ previously posted his phone number to kindly respond to questions. Search his posts for the number as I don't want to be the one to post it here.

As soon as I get the pics downloaded and hosted, I will post them to this thread. Hopefully by Tuesday.

Sacrifice!

On Acura-TL.com, we spare no expense to research these important issues so you don't have to. Going to Vegas was a dirty job, but somebody had to do it. LOL

cant see anything. in my picture, the glass is touched by the hairy lips, inside and outside. so will the tint get scratched?

Sorry, I just cannot shoot the better pic as you have done above. But I'm sure mine is sleek.

This is troublesome rubber double-wipers we talk about.

Check out this. The side having contact with the tint/window is sleek, too.

The pic below is different than other ppl's. Most of ppl put their moleskin on the top of lower rubber wiper, right? Anyone could confirm this?

I mean your pic suggests to put moleskin as the BLUE line I draw. but I seem to remember most of other guidelines I have seen on this forum are saying to put moleskin into where my ORANGE line is showing.

Fuel to the fire...

On my April 23 build TL, the only moleskin/felt is on the OUTSIDE of the window. The inside, like rets', is plain rubber dual blades.

I installed the moleskin kit the old fashioned way: took off the door panels and applied the 1/2" strips I got from flnsx (member here) to the BOTTOM rubber blade only.

MORTOYZ, however, uses the short-cut method detailed above, and covers BOTH blades at the same time with a 1" strip.

All of the pertinent discussion here applies to the INSIDE blades/wipers/seals behind the inner door panel and the window.

Probably both methods work. But having done it and experienced it, I would rather take off the door panels (it only takes a few minutes more) and put two (2) half-inch strips on both wiper blades just to make sure.

I only put it on the bottom one as I was told at that time the bottom one was the trouble maker. Now... I'm not so sure.

But... three months later and no scratches.

looked again, the inside is smoother than outside, but if you put your finger in, you can feel it's still hairy. i don't think it able to scratch tint.

My car...

About the rubber outside of the window, yes, its inner is kind of felt-like and soft touch.

For the double-rubber-wipers inside the window, no, its touch is smooth and slippery (we couldn't understand why this will scratch tints... because too much pressure against tints and make small debris stuck over there?)

If so, add-in moleskin may not solve the issues, the moleskin just make it thicker and tighter, right?

Tell me, please.... tint guru...

Now I need to get some money together to actually tint the windows.
Thanks, cvajs

why? i thought i suppose to split it in half.
----------------------
just mesured, front window is about less than 3 feet, rear is about 2
3*2 + 2*2 = 10
and this is for doing both lips. blue and orange.

As we discussed above, no one could confirm the best way. Someone does

felt on both seperately,
or felt on the lower one,
or felt on the inside of the top one,
or put the one-big moleskin on top of them.

I haven't been convinced by either of those choices. My 04TL has no felt installed yet.
