Talking Fourth Generation TL wishlist...

Just daydreaming:
  1. 300 HP V6
  2. 300lb. torque via direct injection (see VW DFI)
  3. Sportshift minus the torque converter (see VW DSG)
  4. Six-speed AT
  5. Memory includes rearview mirror, steering wheel, pedals
  6. Fold-down seats, bigger trunk mouth
  7. Type-S model with SH-AWD/Brembo/Turbo or Super/Type-S mats and shiftknob
  8. Adjustable interior lighting colors
  9. Bluetooth integrated into NAV instead of separate HFL system
  10. Push-button start

Its gonna be TL n TYPE S again...but the S is 3.7 l engine and the regular 3.5 RL drivetrain and obviously 3.7 S basically an MDX drivetrain......only thing is they said its supposed to be at 320HP for the regular and 350-360 HP for the S..... Im not 100% sure it sounds a lil crazy for that high of a power range but thats what the dude at acura told me.

^^ My dealer told me about the possibility of 280 in the TL and 320+ in the TL-S.. I'll believe all this b/s when it rolls off the assembly, lol.

just adding to what others have already said, i would want a MT tranny option, heated/ac seats, better sound system, real wood, hard drive like the G. i'm sure i will come up with a few more.

To add to the above wish lists:

Full Ipod integration with the navigation touch screen. Perhaps even a way to download your Ipod onto a built-in hard drive.

No rattles.

I'll take everything suggested above in a 6-spd manual. Unfortunately, the type-S SH-AWD with all options listed above will be like $45K+.

Add to the list....

* GOOD LOOKING WHEELS (at LEAST 18") on the Type S!
* Electronically adjustable firmness of ride (sport/touring settings)
* Smaller wheel gap
* Windows go UP with key remote as well as down
* Larger rear brakes on Type S
* More audible exhaust tone
* Sunglass holder above RVM, not in door pockets
* More, and more usable storage cubbies (the two in the current console are useless)
* Rubber/foam/plastic liners in cup holders
* Separate rear audio controls with earphone/ipod jacks
* Higher quality (more durable) leather

Add all that in addition to what others listed, and I would have no problem forking over $45K for the TLS. It'd be worth it.

when I saw that I was like who the hell decided to have these things roll down but you have to stick the damn key in the door to roll them up. What a half assed idea. I never understood the reasoning behind that. lol!

  2. 300lb. torque via direct injection (see VW DFI) I'd like to see the torque curve fattened up and moved down the RPM range a little. I realize this is asking a lot from Honda - home of the high-revvin motor
  3. Sportshift minus the torque converter (see VW DSG) I'd so dig this option
  4. Six-speed AT This is a must to stay competitive
  5. Memory includes rearview mirror, steering wheel, pedals Again, must include steering wheel/column to at least remain competitive
  6. Fold-down seats, bigger trunk mouth Fold-down seats probably won't happen, due to compromising structural rigidity, which is a TL trademark. Larger trunk opening would be nice though.
  7. Type-S model with SH-AWD/Brembo/Turbo or Super/Type-S mats and shiftknob Again, SH-AWD would be sweet, and almost a necessity with the kind of hp/ft-lbs we're talking (hoping for)
  8. Adjustable interior lighting colors WTF?
  9. Bluetooth integrated into NAV instead of separate HFL system Don't particularly care here, just keep it as simple as possible, with as wide of compatibility as feasible.
  10. Push-button start YES! another must-have to stay competitive
I also like the idea of adding heat/cool to the seats - why not, they're already perforated?

Improved iPod integration is also a must-have - it would be very cool to have it completely integrated with the nav screen and steering-wheel remote buttons.

I'd also go for some sort of improvement in the cupholder situation. Heat/cool option would be a bonus, although I don't see this in the competition therefore I doubt we'll see that.

Like stated above a 6 speed auto is a must to stay competitive, even the Camry has a 6spd.

I work for a company that supplies (among other things) various dashboard and door panel switches to all the US manufacturers and several Japanese carmakers. I spoke with our VP in charge of Automotive products just yesterday about exactly that. What he said is that there are so many liability issues with closing windows after they are open that the carmakers are never going to install the UP switch for what they call "Unattended use". For example: You forgot your kids or pets were in the car, and you cooked them, and it's Acura's fault; You didn't realize Aunt Tille's neck was caught in the sunroof when you closed it from the living room and choked her to death, which can now be blamed on Honda, and yadayadayada.

However it's still on MY wishlist!

That sounds about right, and it sucks. Thank goodness we DO have the option to at least mod it ourselves to rectify the situation...

Since other manufacturers are adding hard drives to their vehicles, it's time for Honda/Acura to step up.

- A 32GB SSD (Solid State Drive, no moving parts) with 20GB devoted to your music library and 10GB for navigation maps. No more DVD-ROM drive. There should be an option in the future to upgrade to a 64GB SSD at your dealer.

- Two USB ports for adding/updating/deleting music/playlists and updating your navigation maps from a portable flash or hard drive. You could download the map updates (for free or minimal fee, a lot less than $185) or other firmware updates at home and then transfer the files to a portable flash or hard drive.

- Music management software installed on the SSD, allowing you to browse your music/playlists and to create new playlists using the display. Honda could strike a deal with Apple and use iTunes. This would allow you to sync your playlists with the iTunes playlists on your home computer (with a portable flash or hard drive).

- No rattles, well that would be nice too.

I remember reading somewhere that Acura was talking about switching all of their cars to SH-AWD in order to differentiate themselves from the Honda brand, not a bad idea in my opinion. Also somebody else mentioned the 4G TL and Type-S simply using the pre-existing RL and MDX transmissions, which again not a bad idea and makes sense by saving money and resources from designing completely brand new ones.
As far as current industry standards go,Acura does have a bit of catching up to do namely with the push start and cooled seats also.

I think that in reality the new TL (base) SHOULD look like this:
  1. 300-ish HP
  2. 250-300 lb. torque
  3. SH-AWD (or at the very least RWD)
  4. Six-speed AT or Seven-speed Manual (possibly eight if they would like to match the new lexus)
  5. Better stock suspension and brakes to compensate for the improved (hopefully) transmission
  6. Bluetooth integrated into the navigation system
  7. Possibly a hard-drive with the navigation in place of the DVD
  8. Push-button start
  9. Heated AND Cooled seats
  10. It would be nice to have those sweet ass cup holders that heat and cool also...
  11. Improved sound system...I also feel bad about my stereo when I'm in my friends IS350
  12. Better iPod integration would be nice
aside from those basics it would basically just be a matter of keeping the next TL as sexy as this one (as long as they fix the tail-lights...they're too flat and ugly,I want sleek and sexy, like the headlights)...those new accords are nasty, and the concept cars on Acura's website are unrealistic and ugly to boot. As far as everyone bitching about a coupe...is that not what the CL is for? and anyways...I think Acura's sedans are just fine...they're nice and roomier than some of the competition which are basically four dour coupes due to their cramped interiors...but to each their own I suppose.

How about cupholders that aren't placed directly behind the shift lever so I don't need to concern myself with my elbow position each shift into 2nd, 4th, or 6th. I also like the AC seats mentioned before. Short of that, I love my '04 TL.

I couldn't agree more. I think this feature would attract potential buyers, especially now with the whole iphone craze.

Maybe he's referring to this Lexus :

No 7-speed MT's in production, that I have heard of. I think their new LS has a 7-speed auto.

I just hope that everybody realizes that there is no way Acura can give us even half the things we're talking about without driving the cost up. So I hope nobody starts complaining about the new TL being too expensive, when we asked for all these additions.

All of the "shit" is supposed to trickle down to the cheaper cars, at least that's the way its supposed to be. Then again, the 4G TL will probably come close to 45K, at least in the beginning.

the only thing i would really like to see is an mp3/ipod integration and a/c seats....and maybe being able to use voice recognition to navigate through the NAV menus and type, that way you can still drive with both hands on the steering wheel and input the address of your destination at the same time.

I'm pretty happy with everything else for now...a bigger engine and sh-awd would definitely be nice, but they aren't things i find myself wishing i had while driving around. I guess i'm thinking more about convenience features than performance.

How about those headlights that turn with the car? (I forgot the name of this feature ) I think it's already been mentioned but how about an optional aggressive sounding, deep tone exhaust system for the Type S? Something that would stun Beamer drivers. (As well as everyone else for that matter).

RWD
louder exhaust
better HFL integration into the navi
less road noise
no rattles
brembos at 4 corners.
power increase so we can crush G37's
use if electonic dampers so there's a sport and comfort mode.
adaptive cruise would be nice but not a must.
Dealers that are not assholes.

I think we all need a reality check here ... lol

All these wish list about hard drive and music options, make it another of my office/computer? I don't want that ....

Price will go deep into 40k for sure and that might make some buyers think twice now ....

I can't tell you how many times I wish my car had a "flight mode" here in New York. I'm just worried some F-16s would be dispatched to intercept me as I came too close to Manhattan.
