Found new feature(?) while sitting in traffic today...
So it's snowing outside, and rush hour traffic was a bear due to a semi rolled over on 94 this morning. It's not bad enough 35W fell down and forced everyone onto 94 - now that's blocked too.
Ok.. Enough of the ranting. Has anyone else noticed this - If you have your wipers on a delay, they will wipe everytime you let off of the brakes.
I noticed this because I was sitting in stop and go traffic and my delay was set on long, and it kept wiping like crazy as I'm inching forward.
Is the some weird electrical phenomenon (kind of like how american made cars cant hit the brakes and have the hazards flashing at the same time) - Or is this a safety feature, figuring you might be at a stoplight or something and now you are going, so the car wipes your window for you.

Yea. They I believe have the pilings down (or started). I know they have been posting warnings too all the residents in the area that they are moving onto the next phase - and I guess it's gonna be felt and heard. Not sure what this phase is though.
I believe they are talking about having the bridge up by the end of the year (December 24th to be exact) Here are some interesting things I just read - I'll pass it on.
Features of the new bridge
100-year life span
10 lanes of traffic, five in each direction—two lanes wider than the former bridge
189 feet wide—the previous bridge was 113 feet wide
13 foot wide right shoulders and 14 foot wide left shoulders, the previous bridge had no shoulders
Light Rail Transport-ready which may help accommodate future transportation needs
Design-build project complete in 437 days.
Designed to be aesthetically pleasing and fit in with its environment
Why are we building this bridge so fast?
The new I-35W bridge replaces the bridge that collapsed on Aug.1 2007. This bridge carried more than 140,000 vehicles a day and the loss of the bridge is costing $400,000 per day in lost revenue, increased commuter expenses and burden on surrounding roads.
Talk about going off topic...lol

I have the same feature on my 2G TL and I believe it's purpose is to wipe off excess rain/snow when you have your wipers in indermediate mode after being stopped. So after being at a stop light when it is lightly drizzling, it will give a "courtesy" wipe before you start driving again.
The wipers on my '04 do this. I like it, and it makes perfect sense to me. It ensures that your windscreen is clear when you start to move, regardless of where you'd be in the intermittent wiper cycle. As you may have also noticed, the intermittent wipers slow to a longer interval when you're stopped. Thus, it makes even more sense that they'd make a pass as soon as you start moving.

This feature is also on my 2000 TL its nice. When you stop for a few seconds and you have them on low they slow down some more but once you get back up to speed they pick up, and also if mentioned they do one swipe if you take your foot off the brake.

Our wipers are speed sensative as well. Although I have seen this is old ass cars too. I'm almost thinking the "speed sensative" part has more to do with the timer running a little faster with the RPM's being up. I could be wrong though. (kind of like the cars that idle real low and the lights get dim, heater kicks down just a tad, etc. until you start moving again)
I think the double wipe you're experiencing though is 1 wipe for letting off of the brake after your stop, and the 2nd was just from the timer itself saying it was time to wipe.

hmm..never noticed this...gotta try this...
the only thing i have really notice with my wipers is that if you have them on without the delay and come to a stop( or below 10mph) they insert like, i guess, a 7 second pause ( im guessing this is because they figure not as much rain is hitting the windshield and can prematurely wear and damage your wiper blades- friction and not lubricant

I never noticed that wipe feature, I always thought the cycles were totally time dependent.
The rebuilding of the bridge is pretty crazy, I was reading about it. It's sad that it took a tragedy to make them overengineer it like that. If it never happened the bridge would be standing another 50 yrs. with those defects. Existing bridges with even more volume are built with much less standards. It's time America pays attention and overhauls our aging infrastructure, most of it was design only to last till the beginning of this century. If you have driven on a rusty, potholed bridge, or one that sways or bounces a little bit, it's a little unsettling knowing you are 100 ft above water. Many don't think about it until a tragedy and we drive on these bridges everyday.

I think we outta quit trying to figure out ways to write down the mortgages of the overextended and greedy, and invest some more time in working on public safety.
But I won't say that - because that would be off topic

I never knew about the wiper feature, makes perfect sense to me being able to start off with a clean windshield.

OT- Glad to see that they are planning for light rail. We need to build a useable mass transit system in this country. This will enable us to become energy independent as a country (NOT "drill baby drill"). We should be building mass transit here and not rebuilding bridges in Bagdad.
