footwell led's-please help

I bought two 6' blue led strips to accent my driver and passanger footwells on my 06. once i got them, i realized i have no idea how to hook them up. I know I need some sort of LED controller, but i would also like for them to go on when the headlights are on. How do I hook this all up? Sorry if this has been explained in a prior thread, there are a lot of LED threads out there. Thanks for any help!

Ok so it seems the add-a-fuse way is maybe easiest. Is this something i have to purchase? How do i add a fuse to the parking lights fuse?

i would tap them to the, courtesy lights, u only want those on when u unlock and lock the car, no need for them to stay on with headlights on... that just my opinion

Thanks for the link. If i go the add a fuse route, do the wires hook directly up to the new fuse? this method is only mentioned in the other thread, but its never really explained.

Here's some parts by parts video on how to remove our center console. Simply find whats needed for ya and bingo

Just note that the video shows only HOW to remove parts, all the screws have already been removed....but that shouldn't be a problem to anybody!

VIDEO: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/f-051-diy-video-how-remove-center-console-lower-dash-glove-box-733555/

In your specific case you simply need to remove the Aluminum trims and somes screws that attach the arm rest to the shifter bezel. It's a 15 minute job...

Keep us updated with pics when it's done, I may have to go ahead and do this too

I've never done it, but I want to say that "add a fuse" is pretty easy. Just pop out the old fuse, plug in the "add a fuse" and then plug the old fuse into the "add a fuse". Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, you can get them at Radioshack. I made out and bought two at a yardsale for next to nothing.

I added some blue leds from autozone in my car.. I tapped into the plug that lights up the shifter plate for automatics.. it turns on and off with the headlight switch .. since mine is a manual, my plug was not connected to anything. I just cut off the plug, used a computer plug from radio shack and connected the 2 led pods to the computer plugs.. this way, if I ever need to take the dash apart it is just plug and play just like oem.

Here is the plug.. it is the white plug with the red/black and red wires.. In manual cars it is just taped up to the cig lighter plug.. on automatics It is plugged into the shifter.. you can always tap into it if you are an automatic.. The red/black is the power wire and the solid red wire is the ground.

In this pic you can see the red and black wire from the computer plug I bought from radio shack.. These are the wires that are hanging down in the middle of the pic.. The actual radio shack plug is at the bottom of the pic.. I think these things are the best things ever since it allows you to have quick disconnects if you ever have to remove that panel off later or have to change the leds/neons!

Here is the result:
I also tapped into this wire for my center console switch plate to have that light up at the same time..

On the driver front you can tap the back light wire on the trunk release button and on the passenger side you can tap the glove box light. This is very easy and you don't have to take half your car apart.

Easy way is to tap the courtesy light inside the arm rest glove box. Then you can run the wire inside the carpet.

I had mine tapped into the courtesy light, so they turn on/off with the door. They are also wired on a switch so i can turn them on/off whenever i want
I wouldnt wire them to the headlights..my 2 cents. good luck

Mine are hooked up with the dimmer switch, so they dim( you can turn them off too) when the cluster is at full glow and they come on when you dim the gauge lights.

Here's mine....

I've got 10" LED's in the front and back. They are hooked up through the headlights. When you turn on the lights, the red LED's go on.

Ok, one more questions. If i do decide to tap into another electrical source (center console light), do i just splice the wires? how exactly do you "tap" into another source? sorry if this is a stupid question, i just dont want to do this wrong.

If it's too bright, wrap every other LED with black electrical tape to cut back on the amount of light.

That is a 14-18 gauge set in blue. You may also want to pick up some 20-22 gauge in red, as some of these wires can get pretty thin. Make sure they are quality items, like the 3M ones posted above.

Splicing is more reliable. Make sure you use solder on all of your splices and tape them back up well (or use shrink wrap).
