Fold down rear seats . . .

Does anyone know if the 05 TL will have fold down rear seats? This is one of the features I would like to see. But knowing Acura's history, I don't think it will happen. I just find it interesting that it doesn't considering the basis for the TL (the Accord) has this feature.

What do you all think?

I seriously doubt that it will happen. Acura added an "X" cross member reinforcement where the pass through would occur to help increase the stiffness of the car for the sake of improved handling. A stiffer chassis allows for a softer suspension setup, for a better ride, due to less body flex occuring in aggressive driving resulting in less undesired suspension geometry fluctuations.

Personally, I have only used the pass through 2 times in the 7 years I had my Camry so I am willing to sacrafice a little utility for a bit better handling, body creaking over inclines, and better ride. Hope this makes sense.

60 40 split

I always use the split all the time.. going to a TL is hard to deal with out it.. but then again, I don't expect this car to be used to lugging tons of snowboards around.. do you know if you can add a hitch to the car and some kinda rack?

Ditto. I use the split fold down rear seats in my 2K Maxima all
the time and I'm really going to miss that convenience once I
move to an '05 TL. But then again, I won't have worry about
scratching my dash with a 2x4x10' like I did my Max.

this was definitely something I miss from every one of my previous cars (including a Passat and A4 among others). Infiniti was able to provide this in the G35 (second year of production), and BMW found a way in the E39 5-series (albeit an ugly, uncomfortable solution).

The 2 door Accord has Split fold down rear seats. The 4 door has a pass through just like the TL.

The 4 door Accord has a pass-through as well as a full folding rear seat.

Love that folding rear seat. I miss it on my TL. All 4 of my previous Accords had it.

Yeah, I traded an 03 Accord Coupe and miss the fold down in the TL as well. Buuuut, now that we know it's in the 04 sedan, I'll use that when needed.

I don't understand why people are even discussing fold-down seats in a car like the TL. If you want to haul, get a pick-up. I didn't buy my precious to load it up with crap.

It's not like I'm hauling 2x4's or something, but once in a while, you hit something that just doesn't fit. I didn't use my Accord's seat that often either, but it was there when I did need it. I see nothing wrong with allowing functionality - and if you don't want to use it, don't. Sounds like we're freaks because we want a fold-down seat?

I went golfing with 2 buddies the other day and wish we had split fold down seats. While 3 golfbags do fit in the TL easily, the don't fit when one of them has a folded pull cart. My pull cart is pretty compact but it still prevented us from getting the third bag into the TL.

So I ended up leaving the pull cart at home. If I had a split fold down, I'm pretty sure the extra space could've allowed us to fit the third golf bag. Perhaps even a second pull cart.

One of the main reasons for for having a fixed position rear seat is because it is so much quiter inside the car. I suppose some might wish to trade the silence for utility...but not me!
