Foglights - HID kit install question.

I just but an HID kit for my 07 TL-S. Inside the foglights, there is a metal ring that goes around the stock bulb. Has anyone that has an upgraded fog light system taken those out, or are you supposed to leave them in? I can't figure out what their purpose is, don't they just dim the output?

I would probably leave that in. That actually reflects the light back towards the reflector (or so I was told)

After taking a better look, the metal inside the foglight that surrounds the bulb only goes down a quarter of the length of the bulb, and the tip of the bulb (stock) is painted. That said, I think the purpose is to reflectto the sides, more than shine to the front.

I'm not quite sure how to take that metal ring out anyway, as the screw is on the inside and it'd be a bitch to get it out.

When my HID kit arrives, I'll see whether the tip of the bulb is painted or not and see what it looks like installed with the metal ring.

It reduces glare. I kind of stuck my finger in there and raised it up, it made my fogs "brighter".
