fog bulbs: silverstar vs stock (pics)

I couldn't find any comparison pics for silverstars while reading about bulbs so here are some for those that are curious:

stock:

silverstar:

(don't mind the dirty headlights )

The silverstars look a little better and maybe put out a tad more light. Not sure if I'll be getting the same ones when these burn out though...

That definitely looks 4k or even 3800K on the color spectrum. Easily tell by looking at the difference between the stock HID and that. Definitely an improvement in color and light output I bet. But for best match I think there are others, but this is probably the best bulb for light output.

I like Philips Premiums better that the SilverStars and yes, I have used and compared both. The Philips Premium lamps put out more light and where I live, I what as much light in front of and to the sides of my car as is legally permissable. Too many 4-legger critters running around.

Keep your receipts for the Silverstars. I used to use them for my wife's Pilot on the H4 main bulbs, I loved the light color and output but the lifespan was very short (~6 months). I got tired of shipping the burnt out bulbs and getting replacements by Sylvania.

But this will sound weird, but the best bulbs I've found were some $14/pair bulbs at Walmart for H4's in this really cheesy looking packaging ("Plasma Bulbs!"). They would last ~2 years before burning out but the color and output were slightly better than the Silverstar's. I took a picture of the package, I'll have to post it later. Unfortunately Walmart stopped carrying them, and they carry now are the namebrand bulbs.

I had Silverstars in my previous DD (cavalier) for 3+ years with no issues. I think it is just hit and miss. My girl has one die in 1 year...however her car (GrandAm) ran them as the DRL so that didn't help.

I hate yellow looking lights, so bland. I love whitish, blue looking lights.

Yea they are 9006. Are 9011 the ones where you have to trim the socket or something??? I remember a thread about using a slightly higher wattage bulb but the plug was different.

I like the kind that are meant to be yellow (forgot the popular yellow fogs here), its the dingy yellow kind that come stock on most cars that I dislike.

Looks like there are 2 different exposures between the 2 photos to me. The 1st looks slightly underexposed and the 2nd slightly over. Look at the area in front of the headlight to see what I mean. Not saying...just saying.

I did try Silverstars about 2yrs ago and felt that they weren't worth the effort it takes to change them. I haven't had the fogs on since and find them useless.

Those silverstars will start to turn yellow after a while.

I installed them on my 05 and they are not a very good match to OE HIDs.

I have the silverstars for my fogs & I think they compliment the factory
HIDs very well to me.. But I agree, all halogen bulbs will dim & turn
yellow after a while of usage. Even PIAA!

Btw "jaymo" if you want brighter fogs get HID's & blind everyone
