Fix 2008 Acura TL auto-shut door feature
I remember seeing something about being able to fix the auto-shut feature by replacing the passenger front door check with that from a Honda Accord. Can anyone verify which part is correct from the Honda Accord? I'm not sure if the 2008 Accord is the correct part as it appears the part changed around 2007/2008 but I don't think it changed on the TL.
I have tried calling Honda and Acura for the part measurements, but neither have been able to provide the actual measurements nor do they have it in-stock to compare with what the TL has.
(I only need to fix the passenger side because the soon-to-be wife has been complaining since I got the car but I like it, thus only replacing it on the passenger side)
Thanks!

Hahahaha I had no idea this was a feature....My wife has complained about it at least 3x. Really likes the car, she even drives it-6mt and thinks its fast-but that door thing drives her nuts. Let us know if you buy new part

Seems to be a common issue with significant others. I like the feature but my wife complains non-stop about the passenger door; I've shown her numerous times how to open it so it will stay; in the end I may just break down and change the front right door and leave mine alone.

I ordered the part, got it yesterday, and installed it this afternoon. The fiance LOVES it! (her only complaint was that she will now have to get used to the door NOT eating her legs all the time... Gotta love how women always complain) Anyway, the part fit perfectly and it works well. As of now, it is on the stiff side, but I'm sure that is just due to it being brand new.
The install took a lot longer than I expected. It requires the interior door panel to be removed:
The other thing to note is that, at least on my 2008 TL, there was a plastic barrier glued onto the inside of the door (you can see it at the end of the video above). There are a couple holes for wiring to go through and one is just big enough for someone with small hands and a skinny arm to get through and pull the door checker out and put the new one in. Its a bit tricky and time consuming, but worth it for the fiance to have one less thing to complain about.
I hope this all helps!
