First Road Trip - MPG -->
First Road Trip - MPG -->
I just got my new TL this past monday (see my pictures), and it has made its first official road trip this weekend. I figured with the break-in period the MPG wouldn't be great, but once again I am pleasantly surprised with this car. I got on the highway with about 275 miles on the odo and made a 470 mile trip to see the 'rents and only filled up once. My average was 29.34 MPG on 93 octane. It wasn't just a 70-72 MPH ride either; it was at times a very "spirited" ride
Mine is a 6MT and even with several nice gallops to 90-100 mph, no vibrations and a very impressive fuel economy. Hopefully as the car's engine breaks in even more, the MPG will also improve. Just thought I'd share as I know many out there are interested in what the TL does on the interstate. - Fast AND efficient! LOL!

it's the great news. I didn't have the great mileage in highway until 4th or 5th tanks. I guess 6sp supposes to have better MPG.
How's about your regular driving in city?
rets,
Only filled up once in regular city driving. On my calculations, I got 21.5 MPG on first tank.
Turbowhat2,
Just did my own calculations. I've been doing it so long for my other vehicles, I'm not used to it being done for me by my car.

Although in the city, it's still very good. I was in Knoxville last month, I guess it's the good place to drive...
I did my own calculation for my gasoline since 1990 with database program. And, I always get the slightly lower average than the trip computer does.

I just did the same weekend trip this past weekend.
Starting Mileage: 600miles.
Total Trip: another 600 miles.
Total average: 26MPG.
Left LA during Friday rush-hour and had stop and go traffic for 30 minutes. Most of the rest of the trip was 70-80Mph on the way to Vegas. When we hit vegas the average was 28MPG, 65MPH, 290 miles.
Yeah, this car gets pretty good fuel economy for such a large car.

Lol! Not to throw any jabs at ya, Nick, but if you're anything like me on those 'road trips', she almost begs for some sprints.............when the coast is clear, of course.

rets,
Just curious. In town on business or pleasure? My salesperson told me she's [dealership] only sold around 20 TL's since they introduced them, so it's not bloody likely you see another one on the road around here. I get many looks! Mostly wondering what that beautiful car is!
Yeah, Knoxville's nice, plenty of curvy hill roads to play on. Once the ol' lady's broke, I'm gonna go make some 100+ MPH runs through Foothill's Parkway and much slower passes thru Deals Gap - the dragon!!! 318 curves in 11 miles - used to play there every weekend on my 2000 CBR 600F4. Should be a lot of fun. Everyone should check out http://www.dealsgap.com to see what I'm talking about. --> Enjoy!

Burr,
After my 04TL broken in on Oct, my wife and I decided to have a joy-ride for two weeks. So, we drove to Memphis and stopped in all the cities we passed by.
Knoxville is one of them, and we're impressive it has some sharp and solid roads throughout the whole city and the river. (unfortunately, we didn't have time to go US-129 of dragon, and I felt regret after knowing it has 318 curves in 11 miles. I know it's famous, don't research too much though. I guess there should be full of ppl in summer, when would be the best time to enjoy that curves? Tell me...)
While I parked in front of bookstore to have the bear of U. of "Volunteer", students in bus stops did pay attention to my TL with NY plate. Mine is DG with Parchment, Auto Navi. We should park together next time...

rets,
Lol. I would say the best time to catch the dragon would be this time of year. They usually close it down about now, but usually late Fall after summer is the best time to bring a car through. Not much traffic - especially crotch rockets zooming by you at 125mph+ (believe me, I've been that guy!), even less static from the man
this time of year.
Anytime you're near the area PM me and we'll get together. Knoxville is world renown for not only the curves, but also for the restaurant selection per capita, though living in NYC you have plenty of selection I could imagine! :wow: But it truly is a great area to drive around and I've found plenty of fun mountain roads, it'd take us 3 days to him 'em all! :smokin:
Cheers!

If I am able to run out of my office for a month straight, you'd see my TL in Vegas... what's your question?

sorry, I quoted the wrong person, I was just wondering to see if there's a need to stop like in Barstow or something to refuel since my Civic before still had a 1/4 tank left when I hit Las Vegas
