First Oil Change, what do you use?

Hey fellas,
I am approaching my first oil change this weekend and wanted to know what the best brand/type would be for the TL. I also wanted to get some opinions so I know what the community uses and it will just ease my mind.
Thanks in advance,

MichHockey

I got my first oil change a week ago. I put in Amsoil 5W-30. Some people say to stay away from synthetics for 1000 mi to loosen the engine up a bit more. I don't see why it would make a big difference, I'd rather protect my engine That' sjust me though.

If I'm not mistaken, the TL recommends 5W-20 motor oil, not 5W-30. Also, how many miles do you have on your car right now, MichHockey?

Any 5w20 oil that has the API certification that reads For gasoline engines in the label. You can use 0w20, synthetic too but it will be money down the drain!

I agree with Vtechbrain, unless you drive under very severe conditions, standard motor oil w/ a viscosity of 5W-20 is more than adequate. Just make sure that you change the oil as advised by the MID.

Thanks guys, I have about 2600 miles on it right now. I will probably go with the 5w-20.

If you do, consider Motorcraft 5w20 synblend. It is very reasonably priced, and has an outstanding formulation - it was developed for Ford by Conoco, who seldomly markets products for passenger cars. The UOA's of it have been uniformly excellent. Personally, I am not going to use 5w20, but if I were, I would use the Moto 5w20.

Amsoil XL-7500 is a good product, but it is a GIII lube, so not a true synthetic. For the price being asked, it is not appreciably better than Motocraft's new 10w30 formulation. I like some Amsoil products, but the XL-7500 line is a rip.
