First oil change?

First oil change?
I used Mobil 1 in my Integra for 7yrs with no problems and I changed it every 5000miles. Now with my new TL I want to use the same thing Mobil 1 5w 30. But the manual say 5w 20 for synthetics. Can I still use 5w 30 or do I have to use 5w 20? what's the difference? and can I get 7500miles out of Synoils? I have been reading threads on oil and I am more confused now. Please help.

You won't have a problem using conventional 5w-20 changed at 5000 mi. intervals in your TL either, and I'm afraid to tell you that provided that you keep up with the other maintenance, the car will last 200K+ with that type of oil and drain interval.
5w-20 is fine. No reason to use 5w-30. Why would you want to use an oil that is thicker than necessary? You won't gain anything, in fact, you're reducing your fuel efficiency. Any quality 5w-20 will provide excellent wear protection when changed at reasonable intervals.
BTW, a conventional 5w-20 can last 6-8K when suggested by the Oil Life Monitor.
I suggest Havoline 5w-20 changed at 4000-5000 mile intervals, with a Supertech (Champion Labs), Napa Proselect, or Purolator Premium Plus oil filter.
In addition, I highly recommend doing an initial oil change at 3000 or sooner, followed by a 3000 mile "flush" before proceeding to your regular 4000-5000 mi. service interval!

I’m personally a bit more on the conservative side and prefer to (and suggest) that people stick with 4-5000 mi drains on conventional unless you verify with oil analysis that longer drains are possible (they probably are if the MID suggests longer drains).
Mobil 1 5w-20 can go 7500 miles only if the MID says so. Never exceed the service interval suggested by the MID unless you have verified that the drain interval is possible with oil analysis. Many people believe that any synthetic can go 7500 mi., which is not true, since syns do not always extend the service interval, but they often do.
Again, I highly recommend doing an oil change at 3K and at 6K with dino prior to extending drains.

AVB for President!
I'm currently using a PureOne filter for the dyno fill that I have in right now... Next up will be a synthetic (hopefully Mobil 1) and then a M1-110 filter...

i know there have been six of seven oil change threads in the past few months but since this one has so few posts i figure ill ask it here. i decided to stop changing my oil every 3k and go almost 5k (running 5w20 syn). i noticed i was getting horrible gas mileage when i let the oil run well over 4k. every time i would change it i would get, on average, 60 miles more to the tank. i did not change my driving habits in any way and my commute route stayed the same. im curious as to how much an effect old oil would have, if any. ive noticed this three times now.

They start out in the high 8 or low 9 range, and often thicken to the mid 10 range by 5K or so. LC MAY help in this case.
