First oil change at 500 miles. Too early?

First oil change at 500 miles. Too early?
I've only had my TL for about 3 weeks and heard from people that you should change the oil on a brand new car at 500 miles to remove metal debris from the engine. Should I listen to those people (my coworkers) or should I follow the MID and the car manual? Are there any benefits to changing the oil that early or will I ruin the break in period of the car? Any suggestions will be helpful.
On a side note, I'm really loving the TL w/ navi so far. I'm glad I didn't get the 09 TSX.

geez read the OWNER BOOK
the factory supplied break in oil is a special non detergent oil --that allows more wear than regular oil, as the metal parts need to mesh, the rings need to seat against the cylinder walls, and all will shed a bit of metal in the process-
the oil filter will catch it
If you change too early - the engine will has not had time to get conditioned properly
Thats BAD for it and you will suffer reduced mileage and performance the rest of the cars life
Break in period is critical - I hope you are following the book on proper way
5000 miles minimum- 6000 miles suggested till first oil change
At that point you can use regular- semi synthetic- full synthetic- whatever you want,
And you can switch back and forth between those with no effect to the engine- I dont care what your coworkers say about that either~
average mid will say 10 percent to 0 percent about every 7000-7500 miles-
change oil then
Unless your coworkers are acura execs- tell them `you read the book`- and it was written for the car- for a reason
